We had a 440ex, bad thing about them what can you do with them, to big for the 300 class to small for the 450 class, even though our 440 ran well against the 450's nobody wanted to spend the money, when you can get a 450. We parted it out thats the best we could do.

Good luck!! Plus the economy sucks

Gonna build a 450 for 09... just wondering how much i could get if i did part it out..

not only that everyone wants the 450s now i picked my 450r up with a lsr axle houser plus 2 aarm, itp bajas all around, ac pro peg nerfs, prodesign filter and tether kill switch, burguard carrier, durablue anti fade lock nut, renthal bars, prm brumper, prm chassis and swinger skids, procirtuit ti 4 full system, razor mxs up front and mxr6 rears for 3600 and only spent 75 on replacing an aarm because it was bent.

Bad econ plus you can find 450s for the same price or a little more.

I would suggest lettin it go for 2500 bux if you realy need to move it, parting it out would be a pain i think, youll end up with random parts left, and probly not much more money.

I got lucky and sold my 05 EX in June.. granted it had minor mods, and reverse, I actually made money on it. Good money. Like everyone said.. its not the time to be selling anything. Good luck.

Granted you don't have the best looking quad out there, 400ex's just don't have the resale anymore. Every now and then someone gets lucky, but they just aren't a hot ticket item with so many out there. Average price of a 400 around here is about 1500. Maybe 2000 for something about like what you have, tops.

I would just come off your price. If you decide to part it out, you will loose even more money and be out a lot of time and have plenty of headaches to spare.

powermadd400ex
11-17-2008, 07:56 PM
basically the fact of the matter is
1) like everyone has said, the ecnonmy sucks right now
2) 400ex's are a dime a dozen these days.
more money comes from parting out the aftermarket stuff like exhaust, a arms, and shocks, and etc. and selling the rest of the bike close to stock as a whole. granted you have stock parts.

In addition to the economy, you're trying to sell a quad in the winter. Its always hard to sell a quad regardless of the model.

yeah i feel you here im tying to sell john natalies 06 race bike for 5500 and no one has even acted serious. tell me 5500 isnt a great price for this

TilltheEnd
11-17-2008, 11:17 PM
part it out. it will take longer to sell the odds and ends parts but i think you will come out on top with more $$ in the end. i did that with my old 450r race quad and made 9600 in parts when i was only asking 7000 for the whole thing. but this was 2 years ago when the economy was in better shape

yeah its ugly, but its a race bike. the components are great and the bike handles great, maybe somebody will come along and realize that

lets put it this way, I sold my 416 for 3300 basically a few weeks after the YFZ's came out in 04. and it was a very very clean quad, had enough done to the motor it was actually faster than a YFZ.

I would also suggest trying to sell it other places than this site, if you havnt already, like cycletrader or craigslist. People on here are CHEAP and never serious.

most people won't buy a quad that has been raced. Big bore trail quads that are easy and forgiving to ride are the quads that sell fast. I sold my '05 raptor660 for 3500 within a week of putting it on craigslist and I was the second owner of it. Got me enough for a big down payment on my Ds450.

i just sold my 400ex a few weeks ago last a week and was sold for 3k, had some pappy pc, lsr components, lrd pipe and some other stuff, i dont buy the economy stuff, 400ex's are just generally hard to sell, everyone says no one is buying quads , u just gotta find the right people

its cuz no one wants to spend money... witch in the long run is just going to **** things up more....

heres a tip: wait another month or 2 you will pick up a 450 for $1200 from someone that needs to make a house payment. you will be helping someone out an getting a nice quad.

buddy its good to be optimistic but im seeing 450r s and yfzs going for $2800.00 and they are modded , not to be an ***** but there is just no hope on earth to get that much for a 400ex in general, true story but my cousin went to go look at a 03 440ex clean as could be, and beleive it or not four houses down a guy was selling his 450r for the same price! [3000]
and i dont think he could be happier,
with reverse and 50cc more of pure honda power!

unless i wanna put new a arms axle and stuff on it i wont keep it, i race XC this is ok for GNCC's but local harescrambles are too narrow for this bike, other than that i would keep it.

The economy sucks, that's been said.

Everybody is looking for 450s, that's been said.

There is a third factor, and it's caused by a combination of those two thing. People are trying to sell anything they can right and left. You want a cheap boat, you can find it. You want a cheap 4x4, you can find it. You want a cheap YFZ450, you can find it.

Sure, there are some people still buying, but there are even MORE selling, and selling for cheap. Why would somebody buy your 440EX for $2800, when they can buy a 450r with the same mods for $2900? Because believe you me, somebody out there is faced with the deciscion of keeping their house, or their toys.

I think another problem is that people think their stuff is worth something, or they get into a machine with borrowed money and the interest and stuff ends up costing more than the thing is worth.

I wish I could make this a sticky because I love buying stuff cheap. When you buy something you should consider that money GONE - like when you buy a car for $30K and 10 years later it's worth $2K. Same goes for a quad, if you buy it, it retains NO value and whatever you get out of it is just extra money back in your pocket. If you buy something else, the money is gone again. Markets change and you can never count on anything being worth what it was a day ago, a month ago, a year ago - even property, although property is still considered an investment whereas cars, atvs and stuff 95% have diminishing value (exception for classics and mint original)

So to make my advice shorter cause I could go on about why it's not selling, but if you want to build a 450 for 09 you better have the money whether you sell the 400ex or not that way if you decide to sell it, whatever you get back is just bonus.

well said.. i might also add that mods rarely will help recoup money invested..

as a personal observation.. when i see 440EX my mind says "its been blown at least once, likely twice".. then having looked rode hard is another turnoff..

right now, i can get an excellent "like new" stock EX with a couple mods for $2500, or a "tired but strong/bushings, bearings & brakes" mostly stock for $1500..

altogether, i figure ive got about $5000-n-change(including initial purchase) it looks great, but id be lucky to get $2500..
ill never sell it.. more likely id trade it for some other toy that someone else sunk money into..
