The decompression thing is a dowel pin on a spring that goes in a recessed hole in the head that rides on a seperate lobe on a stock cam. I do not think the stage 2 (or any hot cam) uses the dowel. When you put the new cam in, you should remove the dowel and the spring. Also, with the shaft you are looking at, you will need the timing gear off of the end of your stock cam. It may need to be pressed off and then pressed on to your new cam.

That cam is a very old model, they don't make them like that anymore. They were known to have problems. I have one and have never had a problem with it. Its not just the cam gear you will need off the stock cam. Its the flange that has to be pressed on. The new model cams come with one. I just bought a new flange and didn't have to press it off the stock cam. 14325-KV2-942
