yeah 416 is 87 and 426 is 88. I say do a 416. they make great power and they are very reliable. I think you will be happy with it. then when its time for a rebuild you have another bore.

where can i get a 416 just the piston, rings, piston pins and cirpins for cheap? i already got the top-end kit and would i feel a lot more power with the 416 with stage 2 hot cam, curtis sparks timing advance key, 450r carb, k&n air filter and a pipe

Hands down the I would rather have the 416...Mine is a 426, which puts out plenty of power. But i agree the 416 is much more reliable....I have ridden both and just love the feel and performance of a 416

You can always go to a 426 later down the road but do the 416, with a stg 2 cam and a ported head you'll feel a good amount of power.

The 416 i have now puts down 5hp more @37hp than my old 440, which blew by the way, i will never do a big bore again. Go with the 416

Here is ebay item # for piston, 370112266730, i would get some HD studs from GT Thunder $59.95 you can have your machinest whos doing your bore do your stud install. Since its going to be apart you might as well do a HD timing chain or a crf timing chain. Then just buy the stage 2 cam, i paid $140 for mine.
