why is this a common upgrade? i was looking at the spindles and the outer bearing is smaller compared to the 250r wouldn;t this be a weak point?

I beleive it is popular due to better geometry..My brother did this to his R with 4oo houser a-arms and liked it..I get what ur saying with the smaller bearing, but with a lil maintnence shouldnt be an issue

front hub bearings on 88/89 250r and 400ex are the exact same. I believe that I have 89 lsr hubs on 400ex spindles also. They interchange. The difference between the hubs is the 8mm bolts for the brake discs, 88/89 used 6mm bolts.

Stockers I dont know..but the housers needed a lil trimming of the bushings..Maybe an 1/16th on each side,if I recall..It was a while ago,but I do know we needed to do something to the bushings..

better geometry??? what do you mean??? and the outer bearing is smaller than the inner on a 400 ex as to on a 250r they are both big

geometry, meaning the length of the steering arm,.ect...and there made of machined aluminum, rather than cast..I havent compared the two in a few years, but there was a good reason to swap them..

the biggest reason to do the swap is, the placement of the steering arm.instead of mounting the tie rod with the stud facing down on the r, the stud faces up on the ex. like on my r the stud would hit the lower a-arm in certain situations. Now with the ex set up its not an issue.

the biggest benefit is less bump steer, because the tie rod holds a flatter angle. I gained 2 inchs in width when i did the swap.( with the exact geometry)
