I changed my front sprocket finally to a 13 tooth.
I had to crank the chain for just about all its worth, and the chain has probably less than 25 hours on it. I am still confused by how that whole set up works. The guide at the top is just about as far back as it will go. I guess the bottom half starts to take up the slack.
Anway, as per the service manual, I tightened it until it only had a 1/2 inch total slack in it when pushing upward at the mid-section along the top or the chain. It actually says to tighten until 1/4 inch, but man that seemed REALLY tight!

I guess with it having IRS and not a moving swingarm that is why the chain is to be so tight.

I was shaking my head as I was tightening it waiting for the chain to pop off. lol

1/4 " is the proper amount of slack for the chain. Since the front and rear sprocket do not change distances from each other there is no need for any more slack.
