ok.
I have a 1999 trx400ex with FMF powerbomb headder and mega max end. and I got a K&N air filter.

now when i got the bike it had the pipe on it and he had jeted it, but I think it is to rich.

it has a 146 main jet in it now

and at about half throttal is sputters. and there is black stuff coming out of the pipe and it is all over the back right side of the ATV. ( it looks like black carbon of somthing) what would cause this?

Blown out exhuast packing? Just a guess...

I just repacked it. and the black stuff is like a spray.

Did the packing maybe get wet? And now its blowing the wettness out? Or is it spitting oil out?

Mine was like that.. I thought it was very weird. But as time went on, more and more smoke started to come. For me, that was the begining of the rings wearing out. With the oil burning out. Isn't the maga max disk styled?

ya it might be oil. the compreshion is at 120psi

ya the mega max is disk styled, that is why the bike is coverd in the black stuff.

but why is the atv sputtering ad half throttal and run mint after and befour?????

o ya and when I am in a wheele it will start to sputter.

and she fouls the odd plug now and then. 3 this year. :mad:

Well considering the stock main is 148, wouldn't you think you'd be running lean, not rich?

I was thinking the same thing. Sounds really lean. Is the airbox lid still on it? It sounds like oil that you are losing. When you foul the plugs are they coated in oil? Does it smoke blue?

146 is lean 148 is stock i run a 152 with a slip-on fmf and me lid has holes in it

ya lid is on and has the stock airbox.
no smoke just the oil that shoots out of the pipe when I rev it.

ya the plugs are oily when they foul.

but the comp is 120 psi.

and the bike has lots of power. just the one point when it bogs a little.

rejet the carb put atleast a 152 or higher to richin it up some and maybe lower the clip one notch on the needle. but if you have oil on plugs you might have a bad oil ring on the piston
