So for years I've been wanting to start playing guitar. Everyone tells me I'm starting to late being 19. Anyway, it's something I really want to do but no clue where to begin or what I need. I dont want an acoustic, which would make things much simpler. I heard electric is easeir to pick up anyway.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to whats a good beginner equipment set up and where I need to start learning?

well since your not alittle teeny bopping teenager, id say find a nice epiphone, or strat/tele (fender..pay the extra for quality)

find yourself i nice amp, someting small but not to small, id say a line6 spider 30watt or so.. itll get you going and it can sound really good.

i taught myself guitar, started at 10. all i did was learn a bunch of my favorite songs, how? tabs.

www.ultimate-guitar.com has ALOT. look up the the tab for the song, and it shows you how to play the song.

how do you read a tab?

a tab is basically looking at the fretboard.. this represents that:

E -----------------------------------
B -----------------------------------
G -----------------------------------
D -----------------------------------
A -----------------------------------
E -----------------------------------

the #'s on the tab, represent the fret you place your finger

E -----------------------------------
B -----------------------------------
G -----------------------------------
D -5----------------------------------
A -5----------------------------------
E -3----------------------------------

^that would be a powerchord..

get the idea? once you get that down, start learning songs youll just keep going and going

I think I understand the tabs, what about the legnth of the notes? You just go by ear?

it looks like alot of fine motor skill involved, im sure itll take time to build up the coordination.

My goal is to cover Laid to Rest by lamb of god. Itll be a while but thats my long term goal

speaking of drrummers, this dude is amazing
