I have a 2003 400ex which was parked in the garage and the wife decided to hit the gas instead of the brakes and pinned the bike against the wall. the only thing that stopped her F150 was the bike.. probally hit it at like 5mph

OK so now I needs 2 wheel and a subframe. and a new frame. THe bike got slammed so hard the pivot bolt bent and cracked the engine case.

Has anyone ever bought a brand new frame from Honda?? do u get a new title?? does it even have a vin on it???

Now I noticed that the 03 frames cost more than the 08 frames . will it work..

WOW that sucks, I bent my buddies frame on his raptor 350 and had to buy a new one. It has no vin on it though.

There are frames on ebay most of the time. Some of them have a title. Probably get one for under $500.I don't know about Honda but I think on Alba's OEM part finder they were over $1000.

I either looked wrong or Alba has lowered their prices. They have the 2003 for $745.99 now.

I'm gonna resurrect this sucker in the hopes that someone has more info on this. I have an 01 400ex with a shot frame. I can get a great deal on a 07 frame. Honda part numbers are the same from 99 to 04 then 04 to 07. I've pulled both of these frames schematics up and I cant see any differences. But there has to be or they would leave the part number alone correct? Does anyone know if I could swap all my 01 parts to a 07 frame?

Its the same frame with a few brackets on the front for the light, otherwise should swap right over.

I swapped a 2006 frame off of Ebay seller GDH Racing into my 2000 400EX. I used my old 2000 subframe with it.

The newer frame has a different mounting location for the CDI box, and the two ignition/headlight plugs. On the newer frames, you need to buy a separate bracket which mounts to the frame with two bolts. I also had to purchase a new rubber CDI mount "thingy" to mount it to the newer style bracket. I bought everything from servicehonda.com after studying the microfiche diagrams and part numbers. That bracket has mounting tabs for the aforementioned items. I bent the tabs forward 90 degrees with my fingers to get my 2000 wiring harness to work with the 2006 frame. Also the newer frames are reinforced at the upper shock mounts...a common location for cracks on earlier frames.

Maybe that's why the upper shock mount tabs my Bare Performance Gusset kit included didn't seem to fit right on my '05 frame. They're on there anyway but I had to grind a bit on the mounting piece to clear the tab and weld since it was so tight were the plastic mounted.

Sorry for the late reply. Here is a pic of my original 2000 frame. I had the top tubes welded up where the cracks formed and added temporary gussets as well. Notice the factory welded on tabs for the CDI mount and the big white/green electrical connectors.

Here is my 2006 frame freshy fresh from powdercoat with a Bare Performance gusset kit TIG welded in place. You can see where Honda added the additional tube plate reinforcements on the top tubes above the upper shock mounts to beef it up. Also notice the lack of the welded on tabs for the CDI and electrical connectors.

Lastly, here is a pic of the required bracket and bolts to mount the CDI and electrical connectors using my 2000 wiring harness. I chose to bend the vertical tabs forward 90 degrees to give me easy access to the electrical connectors.

your frame looks like its polished aluminum, looks awesome. ive been having trouble deciding what color to go with my setup, ive got yellow fenders, and some small bit of red and black on different parts. I was considering either a red or blue frame, and also a silvervein type color. heres how it sets now.
