Cheap 400 or 450r

Alright I thought I FINALLY had my mind made up and then today I ran down to the new Honda shop in my home town. They have 2007 400ex's in NICE condition. They are already piped, have intakes, nerf bars, full skid plates, and brand new tires and they're only $3,300.

If I got one of these instead of an 04-05 450r for some of the leftover cash could I make it get close to a 450r?

BTW This is for trail riding, maybe a small amount of homemade track.

400ex no doubt. i'm almost possitive you will have more fun on the 400ex and it has some nice goodies

The power delivery from a 400 and 450 are completely different... unless you go pretty extensive with the EX it won't compare to a 450.... Some people are happy with 400's..... but for $3300 plus taxes you are in the up 3's and still have a 400... I tell you what.... $4500 you can buy my 450r extremely clean with tons of mods its an 2005 and I can meet you!!!----- u like how I did that LOL no seriously theres a pretty big difference between the two!!

Yeah haha but are there reliability issues over time? I'm not worried about the oil and air filters and what not but I don't want to have to do rebuilds after 3-5 years or anything because my budget won't be able to fit that in until after collage haha.

It all depends how you ride any 4-stroke... if your riding HARD every day prolly need to do piston and rings at least every couple years... besides that just keep up on maintainance... my 450 has been great to me and hate to sell!! They are both HONDAs you won't be losing reliability.....

get a 450r... if you dont like it sell it and get the 400ex, either way they both are nice

You can find 04-05 450R's under 3k now very easy. However, it all matters how much maintence you're willing to do, and what kind of riding you do. If you don't need all our power and could careless about beating your buddies in a drag race, the 400ex is the way to go. The best thing is it has reverse. I loved my 400EX everywhere but on the mx track. I wish I still had it to play around on, along with my 450 of course.
