I tried searching a few keywords without finding the info I'm looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

86/87 dogbone is 1" longer than 88/89
86/87 swingarm is 1" longer than 88/89

Is the linkage mount on a 86/87 swingarm 1" farther back from a 88/89?

Is the shock slightly longer on a 86/87?

I am short a 88 length dogbone, but have 2 extra 86 length. so if I mount the 86 dogbone on a 88 swingarm and rear shock, it will lower the rear end. However what I don't know is, does the shock then need to be revalved because the ratio is slightly changed?

Does anybody have a short dogbone they would trade/sell cheap? I don't feel like paying $50 for something I already have just not the right length.

the 86-87 swinger is approx 3/4" longer. The dog bone is longer by 1"

the mounts are the same, as I have mis-matched these setups several times.

For my weight, my favorite was putting a 88 swinger, 86 bone and LRD's rear shock. Then taking the 86 pegs on a 88 frame (lower and further back).

As far as the shock goes, I know that Arlen at LRD used to combine I think the guts from a 88 shock into a 86 body and get 1" more travel out of them......or I could be backwards. I used to have one, didnt really care how he did it, just paid the price back in the day.

I think that with the shorter bone, it will lower the rear of the seat...dont think there was any difference (or if there was, it was not shared on the microfiche) in the valving. it does slightly change the motion ratio, but it cant be much. the longer one will increase the ratio and shorter one decrease. If you were flat tracking, the shorter one would reduce your COG and a revalved shock work better. For MX or CC the longer bone for more travel before you hit the caliper on your silencer.

just my $.02

actually 85 and 86 use the same legnth dog bone and 87-89 use the same. Don't know why everybody thinks 86/87 and 88/89. The part numbers speak for themselves.

52460-HB9-670 Arm Assy., Cushion 87-89

Wrong again, the shorter one will raise the ride height and longer will lower it.

I always mismatched linkege parts, the only problem I have noticed is using a 85 frame mount and trying to use the 86-89 bolt and bushings/collars. The metal collars don't fit into the 85 frame linkege peice.
