Hey Sheriff,
what did you end up doing with your intake

here you go. It is a straight shot now and the throtle response is awesome. I used two 2" fernco couplings and cut them in half...i guess you could just buy one and get two larger clamps. Then the fernco fits tight over the end of the filter with a small section of 2" abs pipe. Having some plumbing knowledge helped. It fits really tight so i cut out the front section of the old rubber on the front of the airbox. now only two screws fit to secure the airbox.

I will say this, you have to be careful having all that weight hanging on the rear of the carb, it may rip the front intake boot.

Where it sits now it is resting on the back of the airbox. It also sits right against the top of the airbox at the top. It is not moving anymore! I still have yet to ride with it.
