a little confused i bought a 2002 250ex for my son, bike supposedly had been in storage awhile without riding. When i first ride it shifts in first fine but is hard going into2-5 unless you let it idle down low after taking thumb off of gas. But the funny part is that once you go through gears one time it never does it again, but if i let it sit up and cool off the same problem. I changed the oil in motor and differential, adjusted the idle and adjusted the clutch several times. I m thinking that the plates or sticking when cold but breaks loose after warming up. I was told to keep riding it and it will eventually breakup alltogether. Maybe i should chage clutch plates and fibers and redo oil. Not sure how it was rode or anything. Bike looks great though.

just run it. if not, inspect 'em. if they look bad, change 'em up. that is kind of odd. synthetic oils will do that sometimes.

i've been trying to put some time on bike. Have ridden maybe one and half hour since bought. I think this week i will open up and inspect and maybe just go ahead and change plates and be done. Supposedly the bike stayed in storage for over a year. It looks mint for a 02 model. Hay would you put 22 or 20 inch rear razors on bike and or you against front spacers.

most likely you still need to fine tune it when ur done. about the tires, you will go thru the gears much quicker. you'll g thru first in like 2 seconds as opposed to like 4 or 5. razrs are great tires. if you want more acceleration, go with the 20's. this will lower your max speed because larger diameter tires have more momentum when they are turning fast. the spacers depend on your ridin. if you like big jumps, something bad may happen. most of the time though it is when they are on the drive wheels, and you can bend the axle. i've never had spacers myself. how big are the spacers you're lookin into?

their 2 1/2 inches and there will be no jumping just a 10 year old riding trails and open field. I was gonna put them front and rear to make it more stable. And how much speed would you lose with 20 inch wheels and would you recommend a rev limiter. I can buy a pro com pretty cheap is it any good.

yeah, they are pretty good. amr rev boxes make it so that the neutral light is always on. i would get a procom over the amr. look at the 250ex performance thread and they have a lot of things to consider doing. i have an fmf slip-on exhaust for the 250 i'd sell to you if interested. the slip-on makes for more crisp throttle response, but you will have to jet it. i have a few jets that i could throw in so you wouldn't have to keep running out to get them. stock is 95. i have a 97.5, 105 and 110 that i could give you. i'm running a 102 with an hmf full exhaust and a twin-air filterand no box lid. like i said, definitely look at the performance thread. the speed issue with the tires is discussed in there.

i have an idea. are u still selling those razrs on stock rims? i'd trade the fmf slip-on w/ the jets for them. let me know what you think about this.

i may consider it just how loud is the slip on because sometime my son rides in the neighborhood and neighbors don't like loud quads. Let me know.

it isn't that loud. you can look it up on youtube. i'll try to find a link for you. i have a sound bite, but i don't know how to post it anywhere.

doesnt sound to bad how old is the pipe. Is it a fmf powercore 4 or is a hmf. I'll let my son liosten to it and we'll see what he comes up with and i'll let you know.

My '01 will not idle while in gear, it dies.

However, if you idle up in neutral and then take off, it will run thru the gears fine.

The only hiccup on my new 250ex is having to downshift and put it in neutral before coming to a complete stop.

Question plz:

Can the clutch be adjusted or is it time for some major rebuilding?

Thx, Woody.
