i dont c the need to take the chain off. after im done washing my quad i use a good amount of simple green and spray it all over the chain and use a soft bristel tooth brush to scrub it with. i spray a final coat of SG on then rinse off the chain. i let it dry a little then use maxima chain wax, works great for me :) hope this helps

After the ride, i prop the back of my ex up so the wheels arent touching the ground, put it in 3rd gear and let the wheels spin, tehn take a toothbrush and let the engine do teh scraping. Worked well so far.

A soft nylon brush and mineral spirits will work wonders on a chain.

A trick i use on my chains once in awhile is the boiling method!
I have an old deep fryer that i fill up with motor oil and heat it up to boiling then i put my chain in. This method will get all the trapped dirt out and when it cools it will trap oil inside the o-rings, plus make your chain look new!

kerosene and an old toothbrush work very well.

can kerosene or gas hurt the o-rings?

here is what i do, take it to the car wash, pull it out of the bed so the tires arent touching and use a tie strap to anchor it to the front of the bed, start it and use the pressure washer to clean teh chain, then oil it.
i think water is staying in the chain and making the links stiff:(

i noticed my links are much stiffer than any of my friends and i don't know why. i do oil my chain much more frequent than they do so that may have something to do with it. the weird thing is i never ride in mud, sand, or water but i do wash the quad a lot.
