I can't find the answer in the service manual. When I put my bike together I made it all the way tight, no slack. Then later, I thought maybe it should have some freeplay like the drive chain. Anyone know?

i was unaware that the chain could be manualing adjusted. Pretty sure the cam chain does the tightening.

yea the cam chain tensioner does all that for you it adjusts (if you have it torqued down right) itself to make the chain the right tightness.

The tensioner does the tightening for you. and ALWAYS make sure the tensioner is all the way compressed when bolted in then release it after tightened down. It is designed to give more pressure as the chain wares. Now that being said. I have stretched many cam chains past the tensioners limit. If it has any freeplay at all in it when all it together than replace it. Its a 30 dollar chain apposed to jumping time and turning into 150 bucks in valves and a 300 dollar head.
