BLM has published a notice of availability for the Draft Resource Management Plan (RMP) and associated Environmental Impact Statement for the John Day Basin planning area located in the Prineville Field Office in Oregon. The planning area is located in parts of Sherman, Gilliam, Morrow, Umatilla, Grant, Wheeler, Jefferson, and Wasco Counties covering approximately 456,000 acres. The Draft RMP proposes 5 new Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs) totaling 61,254 acres. OHV use will be limited to designated routes within the ACECs. All OHV use off designated routes will be prohibited.

Comments on the Draft RMP will be accepted until January 1, 2009. It is important that OHV enthusiasts get involved in the designation process by contacting BLM staff. Comments may be submitted by fax to 541-416-6798, by email to: John_Day_Basin_RMP@blm.gov
