Guys, I need some advice. I found a Polaris dealer that has bought a dealers Inventory that has gone out of business. They have

2 2007 new 525 IRS $4059.00

2 2008 new 525 s $4359.00

I have never rode either one of these quads but am going to buy one. I have been riding a Raptor 700 I do mostly trail riding with some rock.

Which is the better deal for resale?

Which is the better quad In your opnion?

I am going buy one today, the deal is to good to pass up.

Any thoughts?

I would recommend the IRS model. I have an 07 525IRS and love it. The ride of the IRS is so smooth on the trails compared to a solid rear axle quad. The price on those quads is awsome. I paid 6700 for mine in 07.

Trails and rocky? IRS hands down. If you're worried about resale:
1) quads is a bad place to worry about investment! :p
2) You're not going to get hurt for 4000 bucks.

Those are killer prices if they are new.

Like said already, it is whatever you want to do with it wether you get IRS or SRA. They both have their perks. The SRA will be less maintenance but the IRS is a way better tide.

Guys, thanks for the responses. Did Polaris get away from the Fox shocks in 2007? If so, how are the 2007 shocks and who made them?

Will the 525 IRS wheelie easy?

yes they are new but do not come with the Polaris factory warranty. The Polaris dealership is putting a 6 month warranty on them. The downside is that you have to take it back to that dealer, which is 230 miles from me but for the price I feel it is worth it. These quads have not been serviced yet but they were out of the crate when the dealeship purchased them at the Polaris auction. If they would have been in the crate than I was told they would have the factory warranty.

I would not say that the 525 IRS is a wheelie machine. With the power of the 525 you can ride wheelies on it going through the gears but it keeps the nose pretty well planted, which is a good thing when riding trails or hill climbs. It does a really good job of putting the power down to the back tires instead of using that power to lift the front end.

The 2007 shocks on the '07 IRS are Ryde FX shocks. They are an aluminum bodied shock with extra oil capacity and according to the Polaris engineers is why they felt they did not need to run rezzies on them. They are not really bad but not really great either. They seem to work better with heavier riders since they are sprung pretty stiff. They can be rebuilt though for your weight style and then are actually not too bad.

In my experience most shocks are too stiff out of the box for trail riding or XC racing

Go with the IRS :)

You wont be disappointed.

Even at the sand drags, I beat a bunch of stockish 450's and my buddys stock raptor 700 with my stock 525 IRS :D

My Vote is the IRS.

And Yes it can be a wheelie machine. We went to Sand mountain last year and my brothers were doing wheelies up half the hill. A month ago we went trial riding and I was pulling wheelies up the hills across the top and down the other side. It is fun to wheelie except you have to make sure your air pressure is the same on both wheels or it turns you to the one side.

I love my IRS

IRS is for old guys:blah: nah just kidding. it just wasnt for me. the back end squatting on acceleration (although great for traction), and then bucking when you hit the brakes was weird. my S kicks *** at the dunes though, and jumps better than my Z450 ever did.

I have to do a few things and I will get some pictures up. I may have it out riding it this weekend. It was a Polaris Rath race team quad for mx and I am going to make it a xc quad. It will match my 525IRS in the picture above but with tons of cool rath components.

I got it Friday.

I went with a white 2007 new 525 IRS because of what you guys said here and plus I have owned many sta. I ride in a rocky area so this should work well. This quad was built in june of 2007. The dealer said that the gas tank issue was taken care of by Polaris by that Date but they had to do the sprocket or something like that update. He said that this quad should have the rear wheel needle bearings. How do you tell? Anything else I should know about these monsters? Jettings looses battery terminals etc things to look for? I am picking up sat and will post a couple of pics. Thanks to all for your help. Greg

Your dealer is right. It will have the updated rear-end and just needs the 2 clips for the rear sprocket. Ask the dealer to go ahead and blue lock-tite those rear sprocket bolts in when he has them out. If he doesn't do it pull them out and blue lock-tite them in yourself.

Order a JD jet kit now and immediately put in the red needle on the 3rd clip with around a 160-165 main jet and you will be ready to go.

Congrats on the new ride.

Make sure the lid is off with that jetting! Also, I think it is 2 turns out on the A/F screw as well.
