Alright I'm buying a quad here soon and I'm not sure weather I want a raptor 700r or a 400ex. Most of the riding I do is trail riding, but me and my friends do race when we're riding the trails. I did want a 450 but I figured that the maintenance would get out of hand for my budget being 16. I figured the 700 might have the power I want similar to a 450.

I'm 5'9" around 140ish. I was wondering which would be best for me. They both weigh about the same right? I hear the raptors roll a little easily is that true? and of course which will last the longest.

Raptor 700.

The 700 beats up the 400ex in every category except for maybe the fact that the raptor does feel a LITTLE more tippy then the 400ex. But way better than the 660.

The raptors also have piggyback gas shocks, a really strong engine, and looks sick.

id say go 700, they are very reliable quads from what ive seen and have a ton of aftermarket if you ever wanna do some mods.

+1 for the 700r. IMO worth the extra money if you have it. Far superior over the 400ex, but don't get me wrong, the ex is still a great, reliable, do it all quad. The raptor just does it better and faster. Plus, reverse is nice.

This is coming from someone who owns and rides both machines.

Go with the 700r. You will thank yourself the first time you get into a tight spot and have to back up, or when you really need a snappy throttle. The EFI make tuning a very easy chore, and the raptor has gobs of power stock, and with a pipe and programmer, it REALLY wakes up.

My 440 would run with the 700r when it was stock with a pipe, filter and programmer, but my 440 is just about as built as it gets...(as far as engine work).

The 700 have more power, better looks, a good aftermarket, and its VERY reliable.

+1 for the 700r:macho

If it were me I would pick the 400ex. Raptors have some nice features and have a powerful motor but I just dont like it. They seem too big and when modded if they are lowered any they look so funny like a dodge sprinter slammed to the ground. When i was going throught the quad buying state I said its either a 250r, 400ex, or 450r. I 1st wanted the 250r but I didnt want to mix the gas or have to deal with fouling plugs. Then I jumped the the 450r I was set on buying one. My friend just bought one and hated it traded it back in for another 400ex. My bro already had a 400ex and so did all my friends so I knew what they were like and all the ins and outs. Not the best power and suspension but deffinately the Honda most know where its "bullet proof". Also the 400ex was my dream quad ever since it came out so I bought it and I love it. I like the power the 450r has but its not me. I like being able to bog down real low and just hit the gas and it goes on the 400ex. I miss the days of seeing all the pros and riders having either a 400ex or 250r. Everytime I would go to check out the riding spots before I had a quad all i saw were 400ex. All modded out or stock I loved them. It was almost like a flood of 400ex everywhere I went almost like if you didnt have one you werent cool lol.

my dad owns a 660r raptor which from what i hear the 700r is a big improvement and i own a 400ex. as far as speed even the 660 kicks my 400's butt but the 400ex has less maintenance and is more reliable. the raptor is still reliable but you cant beat the bullet proof Honda. If you can afford the maintenance that goes with owning a raptor i would say go ahead I know i would rather a 700r then my 400ex but i knew when i bought my 400ex that it was going to be cheap maintenance wise.
