I have a GSXR600, any reason you want a bigger bike, they're not that much faster, and only come with a higher insurance rate, just my .02 cents.

Mine's an 04 and I paid a little under 5 for mine, neve been laid down, and had 6,000 miles on it.

Well I had one but sold it a few weeks ago. It was old- 1997 ZX9R. Paid $800 for it without a title, got a title and got $1,900 for it. Im looking for another bike, probably a new zx10 or cbr1000. Or a gsx1000r. well idk, guess im still confused...

I have an 07GSXR 750. I got it as a left over still in the crate for 8600. I currently have fender eliminator, frame sliders (not shown), and I removed the passenger foot pegs. This winter its getting an Akrapovic shorty exhaust, filter, and -1/+2 520 chain kit.

I bought this in midway through July 2008.
2004 Yamaha R6
Bought it for $5,500 with 6,500 miles.
Now I have close to 9,000 miles.
But now I have to get it winterized. Getting cold here in Wisconsin.

Like said before, there isn't any need at all to get a bike bigger than 600cc. Fairly close to the same speed, just higher payments and more crap to get into trouble with.

I had an 05 R6 all black with a micron pipe for a little bit (can't find pics of it anywhere on my computer)

Bought a new gsxr 750, had a little over 200 miles on it and some old lady decided to pull half way out through a stop sign. It wasn't fun. If it wasn't an old lady I would've bonked them on the side of the head with my helmet.

If I ever get the money I'd like to pick up an 06+ R6 or another gsxr. My buddy does have a zx6r that I really like. Nice bike. He also has a zx14. IMO more of a "touring" bike. It's fast, but just doesn't have that same sport bike feel. Too big for me.

I've got an 08 Ducati 848 that I just bought new a couple months ago.

I'll have new pics up a little later in the winter with its full carbon fiber skins. :)

My first bike I bought when I was 15 http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r243/formulazcb/Picture134.jpg Sold it a year later to get this http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r243/formulazcb/CBonbike009.jpg Now the Buell is for sale to move on to something else. I absolutely love the torque but the reliebility just isn't worth the money I am putting into it.

well i put a lot of time on my ninja 250 so im kinda experienced and i figured everyones got a 600 so why not get a 1000 and be able to beat anyone who wants to race? i was also thinking of a gsxr750, but ive heard the newer cbr1000rr handle better then the 600s. i know a 600 would fit me better and if i wanted to race tracks and stuff, thats what id get but i just want the fastest bike right now i think:ermm: (and no im not gonna get a busa) i think its kinda like the dirt bikes right now, but with my friends 450 i can easy get it up in any gear, with my 250f its hard to get up in 4th and i cant in 5th. im pretty sure its right like that with the bike, say you want to do a wheelie at 120mph, with a 600 it wont just come right up. but then again i have very little experience on 600s and have never riden a 1000 so im not sure yet:ermm:

as for insurance, what would an 18 year old with a clean record expect to pay on a say $7000 bike? right now, at 16 im paying 1400$/year on my mustang (still have a clean record) which is kinda high compared to my friends.

When i get a bike probably within this next year it will be a gsxr 750 for sure!
Imo they are the most comfortable by far. You guys with a 750 agree?

My buddy had a 2008 CBR1000RR all decked out and he had originally had two 600RR's. That bike was a whole nother story. Easily the fastest bike I have ever (and will) ride. Handled amazing. Long story short flipped over backwards at about 60 in a wheelie and now the bike is sitting in about 200 peices in my garage. (no insurance and he doesnt want it, talk about one sweet go-cart!!!!!).

A move from a Ninja 250 to a 1000rr would be suicidal. Get a 600 first. You won't be shy of power. You say you're kinda experienced, but you better be getting really expierencied if you want to do 120mph wheelies.

I would think that a bike like an SV650 would be perfect for you. They are easy to learn on and have plenty of pep for the more experienced rider. Very light and easy to handle too.

Im 23 with a fairly clean record and full coverage on my 750 would have been close to $2500 a year. I went with the next highest coverage and it broke down to around $500.

Alot of my buddies have a 600 and every comment from them was "I wish I would have gotten the 750". Personally I dont think anyone on here could ride one of these bikes to there potential so I would stick with the 600 or 750. Especially if you are doing alot of in town riding or even out in the twisties.

Here's my experience with the 600's, 750's, and 1000's.

600's are a great bike. Good power, easy to ride, smooth, handle good, etc. I prefer the new R6's out of the bunch, but that's just me. The newer cbrs' handling felt a little wierd, but that could be because I only have a few hours on the new cbr's.

750's are probably your best do it all bike. I loved mine for the whole month I had it, but I have logged countless miles in on my buddy's 05 gsxr750. I can't say anything bad about that bike. Handles great, power is on tap if you need it, etc.

Now to the 1K's. Most people think bigger is better, not necessarily. The 1000's are great bikes. Can't go wrong with any of them. Now if you do city riding or tight road riding, the 1000's can be a bit to handle. My neighbor's R1 just loves to rip the front wheel off the ground. That's not always a good thing when you're flying through a corner. I will say I love the 1000's on the highway. You can just lug them in top gear and cruise around 95ish and click down a few when you need it. If I ran almost all highway, I'd have a 1000 for sure.

I'm still debating what bike I'd like to buy when I save up. If I went the 600/750 route it'd be an 06+ R6 or gsxr750 for sure. The only other bike I'd consider is a 636. Now I do do a fair amount of highway riding and most of my riding buddy's have 1000's. I have tossed around the idea of maybe looking at an R1, ZX10, or Gsxr1000. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love power, but if I had a 1000 all to myself I'm afraid I'd get killed.

i've been riding for 6 years. had 3 bikes. 92 yamaha fzr600r, 01 yamaha r6, 06 suzuki gsxr750. i was a very aggressive rider. full suit type of deal. i'll never get anything but a zuk again. my last one paid 10,900. bought it in feb of 06. 0.2 miles on it. since i had a loan on it, full coverage was 7500 year. canceled my policy shortly after wards. i totaled it going about 75 on a 25 mph up hill turn. either the front tire hit the yellow line or cinders. not sure which one. slid 100 ft into a guardrail. 4k+ in damage. rode away. drug knee on the next turn, get home, flat rear tire. bent the lip of the rim out from hitting the posts

i.m.o. i'm not a fan of the sv's mostly due to the v-twin. i'm in in-line 4 guy. lots of torque, not lots of top end. do handle good though. get like a carbed 600 or so.

about the cbr100rr. i used to race one. my buddy had one. an 04. i would get him in the twisites, but he had a hard time passing me in the straights. i could almost keep up. they are also the heaviest liter bikes out there that i can think of.

i wouldn't ever get anything but another 750. it was 4 lbs heavier than a 600 and handled better then a 1000, due to the size. i know i rode mine to its full potential. i put 18000 miles on it in 16 months. 120 mph wheelies til i ran out of road, 60 mph rolling stoppies, dragging knee, no chicken strips on front and back tire.

oh jeez one thing I miss about my gsxr750 was the 100+ mph wheelies. I'm not a pro rider or anything, but wheelies are my thing. The guys I used to ride with rode street bikes there entire life, so while I was getting used to my gsxr, they were flying, so I just hung back with some guys and rode wheelies for about 3 months on my R6. After that it was all fun. I did touch a knee one time in jeans.... never ever again. That really hurt. I guess I'll just have to stick to racing dirt bikes for a while til I end up getting another streeter.

my one friend touched knee in jeans. still wears them, just with a hole in the knee. just get a pair of leather riding pants with a set of titanium studded pucks. cops love them, especially when they're sparking when you pass them in the opposite direction:eek:

i wasn't that great at wheelies until my gsxr. i could go anywhere from 15 to 140 mph on one wheel. and 1st gear to 4th bring it up without the clutch.:D

my first bike was a zx9r, im 17 years old. it was the first bike I ever even sat on. It wasn't too bad at all. im insurance was between 275-325 a year, I dont remember exactly. It was very ugly lol

i dont know, i just really dont want to get a 750 then 2 months later want to go faster, cause i hate buying and selling stuff quick. im probably going to go either the gsxr750 or a 1000:ermm: i doubt ill get a 600...

i know i dont have much experience, but im one to get used to new vehicles quick. my first time riding a dirt bike pretty much (other than my friends around the driveway and yard) i was jumping almost everything at breezewood (100ft+) im sure id get used to a 1000 quick so im not worried about that too much. and i wouldnt kill myself to quick. id do crazy stuff on it, but im usually smart about it i wouldnt go out and see how fast it goes right away or wheelie through traffic or do stupid stuff on roads i dont know

I can guarantee you will never tap out the power on a 600ss. Unless your on a track, there is no need to go that fast. Go to sportbikes.net and read some of their forums, lots of good info there.

10-30-2008, 10:45 PM
I really want to get a street bike but my parents wont let me get one until I'm 18... Still got about 8 months to go. I rode my buddies 636 and loved it. He keeps up with his brother's Busa but the 636 has a couple mods, nothing major though. He bought it for $3,000 and had been dumped on the left side, he bought a new front fairing for I think $450 or so. Anyone like the 636? He has beaten or been dead even with every 750GSXR I've seen him race. Could be the rider, don't know much about street bikes.

my brother in law had a yz250 with some stuff traded it for a 03 sv1000. a year later traded it for a snowmobile. but he sure did love that thing. i rode it around about 2miles total and for a first time beginner no way but since you have some dirt bike skills under your belt you will be fine with a 1000 just take it easy for awhile untill you get used to it.

gsxrkneedragger; i think you know what I meant when I said people on here not riding these bikes to there full potential. I would say .1% on this site could. Im working on getting the knee down but not there yet. Have you done any track days yet?

www.gixxer.com has alot of good info (and some worthless stuff too). Just dont tell them why you want the 1000 to do wheelies or be prepared to be flamed pretty hard. They can be pretty ruthless overthere.

I will agree that the 636's are great bikes. I really like them, but no way would they have kept up with my gsxr750. My friend's 07 636 on the highway was about a mile back. I still wouldn't mind having one, but I'd take my 750 over it anyday. Now compared to my r6, the 636 would've smoked my 05. The 06+ R6's run a little better and handle A LOT better, so it'd be a pretty even match up IMO.

kneedragger... where you ride at? I did end up going to Rausch creek quite some time ago and it was awesome. I haven't really looked into any road race courses here in Pa, but I'm sure there's some. I pretty much bought the bike to have fun not to race, that's what my yzf's for.

kxrida, i just rode on the streets, well way back roads, no service, hairpin turns twisity type of deal. pretty much all over central pa. a big area. we would put a 100 or 2 miles on the bikes in one 10. we would ride from sun up to sun down. the first time you touch a knee, its an instant addiction. easiest way i can tell you, is go through your favorite turn over and over again, and each time go a little faster. you will eventually be able to tell how far over your bike is.

Sandsjbyz22, yeah i know what you meant. didn't mean to come off like that. i've never done a track day. always wanted to though. after i wrecked some of my friends actually told me i was getting too fast for some roads. it happens. after the wreck i lost my bike and now i'm working on saving up for another one this summer. prob. an 07 or 08 gsxr750

nova, i don't understand how a 636 can keep up with a busa. its over twice the size motor. they do 190ish. 636's about 175-180. the twisities i would understand, but not the straights. i could smoke a 636 on my bike. 2 guys i had them, both could ride, would be behind me.

I really like the new cbr1000rr repsol... infact i'm thinking about going and putting a down payment to get one in the spring... the only thing that i'm hesitant about is the sound... the 600 class bikes just sound so much better with the high revving motors... nothing like the sound of my bike around 15,000rpm with the yoshi...

Yep I've ran 53 a few times as well as colver. I go to college up around there, so when I had my bike I'd go for rides after class. Very very fun rides up there. Gotta watch out on 53 sometimes though. The road will be uneven or partially not there.

I've got an 08 cbr600... red and black with fender eliminator and flush mount front turn signals. I'm on my phone now so I'll post pics when I get home. unless you're racing moto gp, you don't need a 1000. the 600s are lighter and a lot easier to flick around. as far as insurance goes, I got full coverage on mine for $998/yr but I was suprised bc the 1000 was only $1 more. For those looking into getting a bike, take it from someone who used to work in service at a dealer. The hondas and yamahas are of much greater quality. you can also tell on the street. hondas and yamahas seem to handle better and feel More powerful right out of the crate... at least in the 600 and 1000 classes.

I wouldn't advise getting a 1000 as a first bike, but they are great bikes for experienced riders. I know a few friends that have 1000's that don't ride ride wide open and necessarily need a 1000, but enjoy the extra torque and hp over a 600. And after you ride a 1000 you really never want to go to anything smaller.

hit a deer doing 65 on a 4 lane road that runs into urban town...totally unexpected...deer was running across the road into a shopping mall. bikes trash. i have full coverage which is good but it wont be anywhere near what i feel the bikes worth.

good news is i wear full gear...had shift street shoes, shift kevlar jeans, rocket jacket and gloves and a suomy spec 1r...flipped/flew/slid about 300ft....got up and walked away with a bruised knee and scraped back. helmet/jacket/pants are all trash as well but i credit the gear for saving all my skin.

thanks a lot for the input...

i guess it wouldnt be that great of an idea to get a 1000:ermm: im leaning toward a gsxr750, but i still have a year to decide. i just dont want to get one, then want the extra torque in a couple months, id like to get a bike and keep it till im done riding. i was never really good at doing wheelies with the clutch, i always liked to use the power of the machine and i know i could do tht much easier on a 1000 though:ermm:

and the price is pretty much the same between a 750 and a 1000 thats another reason i was thinking 1000

i know 2 people that got 1000 as thier first bike, both dropped them shortly after they got them. i thought it was funny. they didn't get hurt, just stupid stuff.

ny300exrider, i'm glad to hear your ok. i've had so many close calls with deer, turkeys, you name it, but i did run over a squirrel once. its hard to swerve going about 120. haha. how'd you get the rash on your back if your jacket is leather? did it ride up on you while sliding, or just burn you?

You might be surprised and get lucky with the insurance. I had a friend with a 636 and after about a year he was debating on selling it when someone ran it over in a parking lot and not only did he get more than he was thinking about asking for it, he actually made a profit. But he just has that kind of luck sometimes.

That's also a good call on wearing the gear. I know a lot of people think it's uncomfortable and doesn't look as cool but it's a hell of a lot more comfprtable than skin grafts.

the jacket was actually textile...leather would of faired even better but the only reason i got the scrapes was because like you said it rode up on me....im 6'3 but skinny so its hard to find a size that fits real tight but long enough. overall, for the crash, im perfectly fine with having a few little scrapes lol...i know i couldve been 10x worse!!

im not into all the deer crap but a hunter buddy of mine was sure to get the head of it...itll probly be up on his wall within weeks :blah:

ill be back....i dont know what i'd do with myself if i went a full season with no streetbike. i literally rode 5 nights a week at a minimum this summer. most likely gonna have to rent a storage space for the next one....parents said im not keeping another bike in the garage unless i move out

my one friend has that problem...he's like something and had a hard time getting stuff to fit so he just bought a one piece leather suit. i liked my 2 piece so i could take my jacket off and cool down some. i wrecked in both leather and textile, and won't ever even think about wearing another textile anything.

Tommy 17, rattle snake pike is a road that takes you through black moshannon state park and into philipsburg. it starts on alt 220 between julian and bellefonte. its also called 504. fun 2 hour rip.

Going from a ninja 250 to a 1000cc is like going from a 90cc quad to a modded drag banshee! Not a good idea! A 600 is plenty. I started riding a FZR600 in high school, upgraded to a GSXR 600 at graduation and then to a GSXR1000 5 years later. I am a good rider and was when I went up to a 1000, but I was still a little scared. A little fear is a good way to stay in check.

Here is my bike, just go it off the dyno, made 147 with a K&N filter and a pipe. Just added a set of Web Cams and a Power Commander, hoping to hit 160hp+ and 100MPH in 1st gear (does 93 now) :D

I've ridden with a few guys that have gotten pulled over while having a license plate underneath the seat and almost behind the wheel, most cops don't have a problem with it as long as you don't get smart with them. One guy even asked the cop what he thinks about the plate like that and he said " I know its illegal but its not that big of a deal, as long as it has a light". Most kits come with a small LED light for that.
