While me and my son were out riding today, his chain popped. When we looked down at the engine, the entire metal casing around the front sprocket was off. Went back to where it popped off at and found the piece. Does anyone know how this happened? and where should i go with this next?

Maybe when the chain popped off, the chain whipped back and hit the case hard enough to break it off? Don't know sucks either way....

As long as it didnt corrupt the inner wall going into the stater housing leave it off you can accually dremel around it an make it look better. but it wont hurt anything. But what happend was that when your chain popped off it probably bound up between the case cover and the front sprocket and popped it off.

The front sprocket bolts are on tight, but I can move it a little bit. Is that how its supposed to be? Thanks for the fast replies too!

By the way, whats the easiest way to get the chain off? I was thinking about cleaning it up, or just buying a new one. I can get it off the back sprocket, but not the front.

The sprocket will float a bit. As for the chain you should be able to lube it up and adjust the tension and it should be fine but a new chain isnt that exspensive and if you feel that it needs to be changed just find the master link and pop that off put the machine in neutral and the front spocket will spin and you can just pull the chain from the back. Just a little note, if you attach the new chain to one end of the old chain you can pull it though instead of having to try to thread the new chain through the top side of the swingarm and spocket.

I have a 2002 TRX, and I think its a endless chain not one with a master link. If it does have a master link, I cant find it; I looked forever.

Kyle's 08' chain was one piece....unbolt the front sprocket and take the whole thing off.

You can do it either way, you can take the front sprocket off or use a chain breaker and pull it off as mentioned.
