Are you giving it gas when you are kicking?

That's your problem. When you give it gas, it causes the kicker mechanism to crack the case. I'm willing to bet you have a hairline crack behind the kicker.

It's ok to pump the gas a couple times before startup. You should only have to do this before cranking it the first time when it cold. (If it's jetted right, you shouldn't have to ever touch the throttle when cranking).

When it's cold - pull the choke, pump the throttle, and give it a good kick from TDC.

When it's hot - press the hotstart while you are kicking.

NEVER GIVE IT GAS WHILE KICKING!!

yea there is a hairline crack behind the kickstart around a case bolt. Is giving it gas while kicking it the only thing that causes the crack or is there other things that contribute to it? what causes the kickstart mechanism to crack the case?

Giving it gas causes the motor to kickback through the kicker. This puts alot of pressure on the shaft that the kicker bolts to, causing the case to crack.

There's not much else that would cause it besides giving it gas.

No, you shouldn't have to replace any bearings - just the side cover.
