I picked up this Tecate-4 awhile back and am going to put it under the knife.

I used to race one of these clear back in the early 90's when I was a kid. Did pretty good on it too against the ol' 250R's. SOoo anyhow I have a soft spot for them.

So here's what i'm starting with.

So the plan is to take this stock, pathetic chassis and turn it into a modern race platform.

These bikes are 40" stock width!

We will be adding (ALL TRX450R) +4 JB Racing a-arms, spindles and brakes, +2 steering stem, JB Racing swingarm, +4 Lonestar axle, Works 19.5" LT PRO series shocks, GT Thunder MX link and Works sprung 04/05 rear shock.

Shooting for something like this but MX height when finished.

Building the chassis first. Still haven't figured out what engine is going in it yet.

with how hard t-4 parts are to find, why not buy a 04/05 trx450r, swap in a t-4 motor, adapt t-4 tank and plastics. Way less fabrication, easy to get parts and far superior frame geometery. Also, why hack up a classic, getting rare chassis. Lots of parts for the 87-88 tecate 4 are discontinued.

I agree, why start with a crappy chassis when the motor is the best part of those machines.

However, if you do decide to make something else and want to sell the motor - let me know - I'm interested in making it work in a 250R frame.

This bike has a 250R motor in it now. Its coming out and a 4 stroke is going in.

Frame has already been hacked up, and when we're done all the geometry flaws will be corrected.

Is that a durablue swingarm on that? Now I see the 250r cylinder on it also. If it turns out anything like the tri-z/yz450f you built, then it should quite nice machine. Just keep the t-4 plastics and gas tank to decieve people thinking what it is. The guy that built my frame and building more, put a yz426f into his custom framed trx300ex race bike(350x motor, cr500 link, 250r suspension, etc) and used stock 300ex plastics. He lined up at the first few races and everybody laughed at him, that was untill the gate dropped and he left them in the dust, later on they realized that the stock plastics were just to fool people.
