hey i jus installed a wiseco 426cc piston with an 11:1 comp and was wondering if there is a certan octane level i should stay above, i kno that regular unleaded wouldnt be good for it and might cause detonation, but i was wondering if i have to use the standard race fule when i am just trail riding with my buddies, cause i reely dont feel like paying 70 bucks a drum for race fule that would be used in a full day of riding around, if anyone has any comments please post, would save me a great deal of time and money.

thanx

Use 93 octane pump gas.

Yep, for 11:1 you can run 93 octane.

Yep, that's a good thing for him to keep in mind in the future. But for now premium will do just fine.

go look at VP racing fuel web site the site has interesting info on compression /fuel recomendations

Why does everyone seem to be concerned with running 93 with stock compression then?

Because it is a waste and not exactly necessary.

That's what I was getting at.

I run premium in mine, but when there was none here, I really saw no difference. Probably runs a little cooler in the dead of summer....

I love this topic. Seems to get people heated in other forums. I ran 93 octane w/12.5:1 with no detonation. Tooling around the woods with a tank full of race fuel is a waste. I do mix c12 50% with super when i run harescrambles. The mix makes a world of difference, almost like i'm riding a different quad. I only run the mixed fuel now because i love the performance and was getting tired of changing the jets all the time. It is way too expensive if you ride alot though.

thanx, should i advance my timing? will it be a noticible gain? the engine is still apart so i could do it, and where would i get some c12 50%? i used 2 get something like that at my track but they stoped selling it cause it was easier to buy the race fule allready mixd and crap idk y but they did so yeah

Besides VP is there anywhere to buy fuel better than 93??

Any motorsports shop that focuses on raceing should carry a vp product. My local shop JRD only carries the c12 but can get any other if you want. If you go onto sunocco website they have a search for their gas stations that carry cam2 gt you can buy at the pump. Those stations are limited but might be one close to you. There is also torco racing fuels based out of the north east, i think penn. A few guys i've known swear by it.
AS for the timing advance, I didn't do it so maybe someone else can give you info on that but i'm sure youd have to run a high octane with it. I just mix 1 gal of pump super with one gal of c12. Theres no horsepower gain but starting is fantastic and throttle response is amazing and those are important when i have dead starts at the races. If it weren't for thaty i'd still be running pump gas in it.

My 400ex with a 11:1 piston pings with 93 in it. Check local speed shops and drag strips for race fuel too

i run regular in my 11:1 440 for the most part, but i usually rip around the woods for a few hours. its fine. i run 93 when i ride hard at the track and such but i don't really notice much of a difference

If you run reg and 93 in a 400 and you actually listen to the engine and the exhaust you can tell a difference. Going from reg to 93 in mine made the engine run a bit better and even makes the exhaust sound better. No chugging it just runs so much smoother.
