Well I got my hybrid together this week and have one hang up. My front and rear sprocket do not align. My rear sprocket is to far to the left. I knew this was going to be an issue but didn't think it would be as bad. I have heard of having the swingarm machine but the linkage/shock would not be vertical. So I would not like to go that way.

My plan was to take the front sprocket to a machine shop and have them make a spacer and weld it to the back of the sprocket. This would space the sprocket out further to the left to be in line with the rear sprocket. Then have a bushing made to take up the gap inbetween the end of the spline shaft and end of the sprocket.

Anybody have any thoughts or opinions on this?

mine had washers between the sprocket and hub when i bought the rear end. works fine so far.

How far out of alignment?
Maybe machine the inter side of the rear sprocket hub.

Any pics.....

I just went and measured and it's 1/5 of an inch off. I thought about doing the sprocket hub, but then it wouldn't ride on the front chain slide. Not sure if that is to important but that is the only slider I have on my stock swinger. Just went and snapped some pics. Give me your advice.

Pics aren't the best, the front sprocket is in the stock position.

You can see the sprocket sticking up slightly above the chain slider.

Hey whats up? Was this frame originally made for the crf, or was it converted at any point? Also is anything tweaked at all? Im guessing it was originally a crf jb frame, but did jody require the use of his swingarm also? If not something as to be out of wack/missing/tweaked. I cant see how it wouldnt line up if its an original jb crf frame. Out of curiousity what year is the engine also? And the year of the frame if you know.

Thank you
Justin

I will try to get a pic of the rear sprocket, etc.

The frame was originally made for the crf450. It is a 2003 frame and 2003 engine. The frame is straight and in good shape.

The guy I bought it off had a JB swinger with it as well. I was just trying to save money and use the stock swinger for a whil.e

Before doing anything else, give jody a call and see what he says. He's either gonna say you gotta run their swingarm or something is out of wack. Laeger chassis actually use a offset rear swingarm on the true hybrid chassis.

Thank you

Put a chain on it...
How does it aliegn between the two sprockets?
I don`t know that I would be going by a rubber chain swing arm slide.
I`ve seen them move in and out.
Good luck.

I put the chain on it, it was not aligned.

I thought it was the swinger as well.
I think that most of the purpose built frames use a purpose built swinger. but like jrspawn said check with jb.

turn the sprocket around, it has an offset to it, its not much, but you will be closer. thats how all my hybrids have been. one of my first ones was never lined up all that great, never had a problem. i know its not perfect, but it was functional.

the inside part of the swinger has to be machined off so the motor sits farther over that what i did to mine

Is this a 400EX swingarm you're using?

I'm dealing with this on my 400EX/XR650R hybrid build right now. I'm considering spacing the sprocket over, but I have 5mm worth of shims that put it very close to the axle carrier, and it still could come over a bit more.

See here:

I've done some searching about 450R swingarms and found a couple of mentions that their axle carriers are narrower than the 400's, which could help keep from having to have a goofy setup like what I have.

Unfortunately, I don't have 450R parts laying around. Any one care to measure the difference?

what chassie is this in your 400ex? are you usein a yzf400 or 426? did you make your mounts or did you buy a mountin kit?

This is a 2003 JB Racing Crf450 frame with a 2003 CRF450 engine. The mounts were made by JB and came with the frame.

what did you hear about the swinger?
In the end you'd probably be better off with a jb crf swinger..

yeah i would use the full JP set up...

a guy posted a great forum on all of this for alignment of sprockets.(mx416ex) (his hybrid is f****** minnt!!! He had his rear sprocket machined 1/8 - 14 inch, in addition to shaving the swingarm, i saw what you said about the shock not being straight after or w.e but if you space your front sprocket, and shave your rear sprocket hub the two toghter should get you closer anyways without hacking the swinger ! Right?

lol I'm sure.

I have the problem fixed. This frame was designed to be used with the JB swingarm, that was my problem.
