this is a question ab the sprocket best suited for me. my buudy told me to ask b4 i go and buy them. i am duner with a bunch of aftermarket: 426 11:1, stage 3 cam, ported polished, 39 fcr, lightened fly wheel, airbox eliminator and a rev box. i have skat trak hauler ten paddles and im trying to see if i could still launch from 1st gear hard. im sure it will slow me down but all the work i have with stock gearing?????

Well if you step up that far on the front, its gon cut down on ur bottem end, but it will scoot on top end. IMO, i would stay stck in the front, and play with the back. B/c 1 tooth up or down on the front, is like 2 or 3 up or down on the rear.

How big are the rear paddles you are running?

I run 16/39 gearing and I love the 16T front....really stops you from zipping through each gear so fast. But I run 18 inch rears, so it still pulls hard down low. I can still do 2nd gear starts with ease.

If you are running like 20's or 22's, then you might be bogging the motor a little bit in the sand. 1st gear you will still be able to launch just fine, but the motor will be lugging around a bit at slow speeds until you get your RPM's up.

if you're making good power you could probably do the 16t; if you find it bogging on the launch, air up a little bit for more tire spin. and for <$15 for a front sprocket it's at least worth the try IMO.

Considering how cheap and easy to change they are, buy both and change them when your riding and see what you like better.

hmmmm i might try this, i find my self just running through 3rd and 4th gear to quickly.

well i only run 22s i have 10 paddles 22x10x8 on .125 aluminum douglas wheels. then i have the same size 4snows on steel wheels. i have the best holeshot out of anyone i run and the bike never bogs(with 4snows). I had like a off brand cam called a magnum can and it was their stage 2 and my bike is in the shop getting the stage 3 hot cam. i have not run it with the cam or the carb(i ran it but the jetting was off) so i hope the 16th will be like im running a 15th. BUT if i stay with the 15 tooth what back sprocket could i get to give me more top end? 15/38 stock.

15/36

Very similar to the 16/39 I run. 15/36 yields a 2.40:1 final drive ratio. 16/39 is a 2.44:1 ratio. For reference, stock 15/38 gearing is 2.53:1.

What is the ratio for 13/36

not trying to take over thread but what formula do you use to calculate the gear ratios

divide the big number by the little one

i just wanted to add that i weigh 240 and i just added another 5lbs to the bike with an +3 extended swingarm. im sure that everything is a factor. does anyone have any dyno info on the 426 kits with the fcr carb. i decided to keep the front 15th but change the back to a 36th. let me know what you think.
