any thoguhts on why it does this? i put the stock stem back on and it turns fine?? i race harescrambles so i do alot of turning. so i need an easy turning stem. I think it has to do with the tie rod end mounting points. cause even with the stem bushing loose, its still hard to turn. the tie rod ends go in hard could the holes be too tight?? its a brand new stem that just sits in the garage.

what make and model quad do you have. Its not the holes where the tie-rods mount in the stem. they are supposed to be tight the tie-rods move on themselves(if that makes sense). So let me know what quad you have and we will go from there.

its a honda 400ex i figured that was what was supposed to happen but that leaves me with nothing, i tried different tie rod ends and even different spindles. its a +2+1 stem

the only thing we haven't discussed is around the bearing at the bottom, if your stock one turns fine then that means something on the other stem is hanging up the frame or something down in that area. I'm assuming its our stem. let me know if that helps at all

the only difference i can see is with the tie rod mounting points the burgard stem is 3/4 in between the holes and the stock stem is a hair under an inch in between the holes.

the stops on the stem that only allow the stem to turn so far one way or the other are they hangingup on anything?

no theyre fine could it have anything to do with the tie rod ends being closer to eachother than stock thats the only difference i see

i did some more measuring im im going withthe theory of leverage here. from the stem shaft back to the tie rod holes is as follows. burgard 2' 3/6" stock 400ex 1' 15/16" stock 450r, 1' 5/8" now the farther the holes are from the center pivoting point, the more force you would need to turn correct? so with the tie rods being farther back from the shaft this should in theory make it turn harder correct??

having the tie-rods back further actully makes it turn quicker. It won't make it turn harder I have the same stem in my 400ex and i put a steering stabillizer on it cause it turned to easy.

Is the stem bent, and binding at the upper, or lower mount??

the stem is new so its most likely not bent. but anything is possible.

no it seems pretty straight i drilled some new holes closer to the shaft we'll see what happens once i get a chance to put it on the quad

Had the same exact problem with a burgard 300ex stem. Feels like your turning a mack truck

well the drilled holes make it turn like a dream i also had to grind down the bump stops but that was minor theres no binding or anything i may be buying another stem soon maybe i can get one setup the same as mine??
