can you put a 400ex engine in a 250r 3 wheeler

No the motor isn't going to fall into place for you. I don't know of anyone who has tried to do this. If you have a 250r engine, why?....

The 400 engine Is huge. I would never say you could not do It, because I'm sure If you hacked the frame to pieces It could be done. The carbs on most 4 strokes are to high to clear the rear shock mount on the R frame. A 350x frame would be a better frame for a 400ex engine I think.

With enough fab time anything can be done. that does not mean it should be done though.

There is a guy who put the smaller sized 450R motor in a 85/86 ATC 250R chassie. He had to lower the cradle thus losing ground clearance...not a good thing...and Like mentioned the Carb on the 450 was so High the builder had to cut and notch the frame backbone right at the joint....not a good thing as frame strength is weekend.
