What would make a 2 stroke to diesel during break in ? or just to diesel ?

Just a couple of ideas off the top of my head:

A weak ground

A too hot of a spark plug

Maybe fuel with a much lower octane rating than needed (i.e. running 87 in a motor built for 110)

How long is it running before it diesels? Does it have a chance to warm up, or does it diesel when the engine's still cold/cool?

I was told "diesel' in a 2 stock is when it revs eradic. this is what happend to me on the break in . not even riding it , just running the engine on the second heat cycle. the motor would not stop even after pulling the plug wire. had to put in gear to kill motor

that is a symtom of an air leak. did ya perform a leak down test on the engine prior to install?

check your base gasket and intake gasket may be sucking air try spraying carb cleaner around this area and see if the motor reeves up

sort off topic, but Im pretty sure diesel is the same as after run, or when u shut something off it sputters awhile before totally stopping. Which I thought rustyATV was talking about with the issues because dieseling is due to hot spots in the cylinder.
