I posted this in the 505 forum as well.

I am looking at buying a left over 450XC but I see now that the new 450 and 505 has a DOHC motor. How do these two compare? I really like the out the door price of the 450XC for about 7700. How does that sound to you guys? I currently ride a 08 KFX450 power is fine but I nees suspension and dont feel like throwing 3k at it to get it the way I like it. I can sell it and buy a new KTM 450XC cheaper.

Thanks.

I have heard the 09s have a little more snap than the older generation motors, but overall, i don't think they are that different.

you'd probly be happier with an xc i used to ride dirt bikes had 250 and 450 4 strokes all dual camed and it was 2 times the work but the power difference was huge any dohc motor should have tons of power but the xc's have tons of power 2 but what do you ride woods dunes fire roads
the sx would prolby go pretty good in the sand quick reving power

We ride 95% trail, trying to race some GNCC this year and will throw in a beach race into it as well. KFX that I have now has more then enough motor but as any jap bike needs suspension. I am going to talk to the dealer tomorrow to see if I can get this thing under 7k. What is the basic warranty on this thing?

i can't rember all of the warrenty it's parts and they won't cover the engine or trasn unless you use a certain oil and change it very often for the first however many hours

Basic warranty is 30 days, but extended plans are available up to 2 years.

If you are sticking to trails and/or XC racing, DO NOT BUY A SX. Trust me from experience with my 450SX, it is NOT a good trail quad. The engine is way to "snappy" and does not like holding one gear and speed like you probably would do on some trails. The SX DOHC is very top-end based and loves to be revved quickly, shifted, etc. like what you do on motocross tracks. Cruising along trails or slowly going over obstacles like rocks do not work well (the engine stalls too easily). What I am basically saying is the XC is designed for trails, the SX is designed for the track. Keep the appropriate model on the appropriate terrain.

just don't go slow over these things LOL
They are both pretty good The xc would be more fun for what you want. You have to work alot on ths sx for trails

MCRacer is right the XC would fit what you want more but I have ridden both bikes and the SX hits a lot harder than the XC motor. I was actually very suprised at the difference. The best thing about the SX is that the seat is lower but you can always buy that.

I bought the left over 450XC for 7100 otd plus got the promotional package that they are currently running which brought the price of the bike down to like 5600 if you were going to purchase these things as well. Its a great deal and I love the bike. Motor is strong and compatible to all the450 out there. Suspension is 100 times better then anything out there stock. The bike is worth every penny.

If you ever need more power you can add a 525 or 540 cylinder/pstion and your set.

Good news on the 08's and the promotion.......I saw a 525 in Cali for $7700 as well but would be nice to get those extra parts.
