Hey guys, in your opinion do you think it would be better to spend $2,000 building my 2000 300ex to a 330ex with the stage 3 kit from mods3.com (330 head, piston, cam, yosh full pipe, new carb, etc other mods) or should i sell it and buy a brand new 2007 400ex for $4500 from the dealer?

I'm about done with the 300ex but would love to have one that ripped. I'm kinda leaning towards the brand new 400ex but want something (like a rebuild) to do this winter.

I don't see many 330ex's so I kinda want to try it out. From another perspective I do not want to ruin a reliable motor by modifying it so much. Does anyone have a 330ex that rips that could inspire me, or should i ditch the idea?

I am pretty sure a stock 400 will walk on a 330. I have had a few modded 300ex's line up, and all I could do was laugh. Not that the 400 is extremely fast, but a 300ex is pretty weak.

advice taken, it seems like more money than it's worth to mod the 300, I do all woods riding, pretty tight, little jumping except on a few hillclimbs with the washout barriers

my buddy used to have a 330ex and my stock 400 walked all over it.

just wondering why you are looking for a 2007? 2006 and 2005 look the same but will be much cheaper. A stock 400ex will more than likely walk all over the 330ex in everything.

I enjoy riding the wifes 300 ex...it's got the big bore kit in it, haven't had any problems at all out of it. It's got balls, I think it's a fun little quad.....seems a ton lighter than my 400

Me....I'd buy the 400ex though

I say sell the 300ex but for 4500 you could find a used 450r with all the basic mods already done to it probably. I find 450s as low as 2700obo and they seem to be in good shape.

Just my .02

thats if you like the way 450's ride. I like how they are newer technology more updated compared to the 400ex and are faster but they just wanna go fast. cant do my slow wheelies or puttin around checking things out because they stall so much easier. My 400ex i can let out the clutch and it will idle pulling me around. 450's you need to really get it going otherwise you dont have the power.

@FoxHondaRider
Looking at the 2007 because the dealer by my house has them in stock, brand new for $4500. ...also never thought of looking at used 05 or 06's..I guess they aren't hot on the market right now in my area because I haven't seen any for sale.

@hypersnyper6947
I'm looking for a tight woods quad, I heard the 450r's are best on a track and the 400's have more 'usable' power in the woods. If anyone can verify or dismiss this I would enjoy the input, I do really want a 450r though but I only ride woods.

everything about the 400ex is far superior to the 300ex. you would not be just buying more HP, but you would be buying a better handling, better suspended, roomier...better everything quad. lol. i would def go with the 400ex. major plus is that the 400ex reverse actuation is waaayyy easier than the 300ex
