I am considering putting 450R stock take off shocks on my 250R for XC/trail riding. I know they fit but I would like some feedback on how well or not these shocks work off road in stock form. How about with the dual rate softer spring kit?

i cant imagine that they would be that great, unless you get them revalved for your quad.

if you are going to run stock 450r shocks get them revalved/resprung. i think 450r stock shocks are stiffer than stock 250r shocks. if you are going to race XC, definately revalve, i dont know how much a respring kit will help. C&D, GT THunder, Derisi are all good choices.:macho

Don't waste your time or money. Look around on here or ebay someone will have something for a 250r that will work alot better.

i put them on my 250r as-is . the front end sat like 2 inches higher...which means narrower too. hard as a rock. i have ohlins piggbacks on it now, much better. if you want to send them out to get redone they will be great but if not. dont bother. imo

did you try to adjust them? I have a 400ex just about the exact same as a 250r frame and a-arms wise and the shocks are great! I backed the preload off all the way and it sat lower than stock and was too soft. I have it 2-3 threads showing above the top collar and its the same ride height as stock maybe a tad lower. In trails they rode so smooth with no preload softest compression and slow rebound being so soft but when i wanted to slam whoops or jumps I would bottom out so i made it 2-3 threads showing and I think 3 and 3/4 turns on compression and maybe 3 or 4 on rebound out from the softest/slowest. Now I can jump and slam whoops much faster.
