The specs between the XR and EX cams are very similar. I didn't notice much of a difference when I put an XR in my stock pistoned EX. It gave it just a little more mid-top. You're better off going with a higher compression piston and a Hot Cam.

The Hot Cams are about the same price, and they will give you more power than the xr cam. If I remember correctly, I paid 140ish for the xr cam & 135ish for the Hot Cam.

I paid $130 and no core charge. I did the cam at the same time as the 416 11:1 rebuild. All together @350$ and very much worth it!

Hotcams stage 2 have considerably more lift than the Xr cam, The stage one is almost the same cam with a lil more low end.

i was also thinking about getting the CURTIS SPARKS drop in racing cam. Its 159 bucks. He also has a aggressive racing cam but it's out of my price range at 350 bucks. Also what would be the best compression ratio i could run to get the most power and still be able to run pump gas with a 416 piston???

I had an XR cam for a brief time. It woke up the bottom end, but it lacked in top end pull.

The hotcam stage 2 sounds like a good one. I dont have one cause they didnt come out until after I installed my present cam.
