Hey guys I have a 400Ex with a 440 big bore kit full exhaust and I need more power and speed. I flat track and I have to run against 250r quads with 383 stroker motors and they just flat blow me away. I want to get a FCR 39mm carb. and a hot cam can you guys think of anything else.

If you want to be competitive i would reccomend a 450 with a worked motor, or if you really wanna keep the ex 502 stroker with stage 3 cam with 41mm fcr.

Will the 502 stay together or will it blow up. the 450 class is the open class here and they let the 250r run in the 400 class they say there is no difference ha ha

Tell me the difference between a stage 1 stage 2 and stage 3 cams. Cause I have no idea.

Basically 1 for a stock motor 2 for a mild motor 3 for a wild motor.

I remember tom carlson used to build them but if i remember right he said that they were ticking time bombs. Your next best bet would be a 460 stroker with port work.

I no I sound like a complete moron but I know nothing about engines I can ride like no other but when it comes to working on one well forget it. Another stupid question for you what is a stroker motor? sorry for the dumb question

I have a 440 kit in it now should I go with a stage 2 or stage 3 cam?

stage 3 for 440

stroke is the distance traveled up and down the cylinder wall

bore is the diameter of the cylinder

to stroke, a new crank or machined crank is required, as well as grinding the cases and geting a longer rod etc. It's not cheap, or easy. I would buy a 450R before I EVER thought of stroking a 400

The 450 open class here is nuts those guys pile on top of each other every race and no thanks to that. I just want to beat these 250R'S they are killing me on the flat track races. What would you recommend as far as a carb a 39mm or 41mm?

a 440 stroker however pulls much harder all the way through than a 440 bore. I know this from personal experience. My friends all had 440's except one was a stroker. It was like rididng a rocket never bogged just kept pulling hard to 9500 RPM or so. In a drag the 440 stroker would rape the 440 big bores. I mean it was even geared up higher and off the line and in the top speed just all around beating them. I dont know why that is but a stroker motor is much quicker. I think you need a 450 or 250r motor swap. Service Honda actually sells the motors and kits for the 400ex to put a 250r motor in it and then you could build the motor like your competitors.

502 EEEEKK!!

If you are in a unlimited class and like your bike I would consider making your 400 a hybrid 450r. The other option is a trx450 with s 488 or 500 big bore.

you can get 450R's for less than $3k now....I have seen them all pimped out for as little as $3700

i would do the 450 motor swap.. be alot more dependable than trying to bore out 400 motor even more.

if thats the class your going to stay racing in then you need to run the most competetive package which sounds like the 250r worked.. your working at a handicap as it stands now. otherwise change classes.

if your going to do a hybrid i would go for a old cr500 motor or a quadzilla motor,
