I'm getting ready to blast & P/C my '05 450R frame. What are some things that need to be done for prep work?
I know I'll have to remove the steering stem bearing but what about the bolt threads and anything else that will need to be done?

Im sure pappy can answer you best on this but ill fill you full of what i know(or at least think i know lol). Be sure to put plugs or old unused bolts in all threaded holes, the powder will ruin threaded holes. on all my frames i sandblast them and be sure to get all the paint off of them. after i sandblast them i go over the whole frame with real fine sandpaper to knock the rough texture of the blaster off. I clean the frame with a thing called Iron Phosphate which i purchase from Columbia Coatings. I rinse the Phosphate off with water. I usually put all my blasted frames in the oven for about 5 to 10 minutes to be sure all water is dried and a warm part also helps when powdering.

Like was stated, remove all bearings and seals, and ask your coater to make sure things are plugged. Most will handle this without question, but many have no clue so dont be afraid to ask and make sure.

Most shops wont worry with phosphate coating steel, simply because they dont have filtered water for a rinse on an item as large as a frame, which will just leave mineral deposits back on the steel and negate the added expense of the phosphate.

Double check your colors with your coater, and you you should be good to go.
