all depends on how you ride, and what its for. More power 2 stroke. Trail, less maintaince, better fuel consumption 4 stroke, it all depends on your riding style. I like 4 stroke on quads and 2 stroke sleds (they are releasing 4 strokes now).

2strokes have more power to weight while a 4 stroke has a lot more bottom then a 2 stroke. they also need more matienence but are crazy to ride

Lets see

2 strokes are lighter
2 strokes are faster
2 strokes are cheaper and easier to modify
2 strokes have less moving parts so they are easier to maintain (unless you have a Banshee!!)

The only downfall to the 2 strokes are the emissions. It won't be long until the federal goverment is after the 4 strokes as well.

2 strokes you have to stay on the powerband where as 4 strokes the power is evenly spread. it is all preferance really. get on a banshee and then get on a cannondale then you will really be able to tell the difference between a 2 and a 4stroke.

hey tratior... (j/k!)
dont you mean get on a 250r... then get on a 400ex... then you will really be able to tell the difference between a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke?

the powervalved 250's have a soft hitting band, its like a 4-stroke.

tants, a 250r and a 400ex would be another good one but you can REALLY tell your riding a 2 stroke when your on a banshee as for the cannondale i thought i would put somehting close to the banshee.

if ya cant beat em might as well join em!:p

Yea 2 strokes dont have hardly any bottom end, therefore its better to be riding it wide open and slipping the clutch in turns while in that powerband area, otherwise you lose engine momentum if you try and rev it all they way up all the time. 2 strokes are liighter, and require more maintenance, but its usually simple work. SInce its 2 strokes the inside of the cylinder gets hot quickly and will wear fast, so most the time when it wears so much you bore it up a little to make it all smooth again and ride like new ( not always a big power gain like many people think ).

One thing I noticed people doing when it comes to cylinder repair is when they need it rebored, they have a cast iron sleeve put in it, and that, doesnt conduct heat very well and can cause the engine to over heat. My $.02 about that idea would be spend the extra money to get the cylinder recoated with the nickle lining stuff =)

I recommend 4 stroke but if you want to ride wide open constantly, get a 2 stroke.

u guys make me want a 250r now, hint hint...

Get a 250r. Then sell it and get a 400ex. Whatever you like better buy or keep the one you have or want.

well i like 4 strokes they are good on gass and easeir to trail ride on but i would rather have a banshee or any other 2 stroke than have a 4 stroke i like how the power feels and such if i had a cannondale , i would still be ridin the banshee more just in my opinion i thank 2 strokes are better;)

It depends on your riding style. I like them both, the nicest 2 stroke i ever rode was a lt250r.

I could write 3 pages on this topic... but i wont
Its all about the rider
I likes ta go fast :D

Whoever said a 2-stroke doesn't have any bottom-end doesnt know what the crap their talking about!

it totally depends on your riding style. if you grew up on a 4 stroke then you would want a 4 stroke. if you grew up on a 2 stroke then you would want a stroke. making a switch between the 2 different motors is a drastic change in riding style.

for example NTP22 had a 300ex before an R and during his first month or so he was slower on his R than he would be on his 300ex because he wasnt used to the powerband.

Now the kid rips on the damn thing because he learned how his motor behaves.

Everyone will have a different oppion on this subject. 2-strokes like to be ridden top end, you can still get plenty of low end out of them. 2-strokes have more of a hit/pull back to them but you can't compare that to the cannondale becuase they are very similar with powerband wise. I think the reason why all these new 4-strokes are being built is becuase these stupid hippies are stopping the making of all 2-strokes in 2006.
IMO. I like the 2-strokes because they have that hit to them and I usually ride all top end which thats how 2-strokes like to be ridden. The sound of these single 4-strokes sound kinda funny to me, I like the sound of the 2-strokes alot better. What I like about 4-strokes is that it takes less maitance, less gas milage, the power feels more even throught all RPMS, and they don't tire you out as quick as a 4-stroke does. Also 2-strokes lack torque as 4-strokes don't :huh . IMO.

I will be going for the 4-strokes for now, to me 2-strokes are just disapearing day by day and in the future no one will even know what the he11 a 2-stroke even is. To me whatever I ride I wil be happy with :D
