fuggers, the bike chucked the top end yesterday. the ring pin popped and cause the ring to be able to move back and forth. the ring got caught in the exhaust port and put a nice gouge in the cylinder. totally sucks balz. its a $400 repair job. i have to get it repaired, a new nikasil coating, and then the piston and rings. im glad i can do the piston and rings myself, cuz the bill would be more otherwise. this is so aggravating

ouch.. so the clip got stuck or the actual wrist pin?

there is like a pin in the ring...its hard to explain, but it bridges the gap so that the ring looks solid. that popped out which is wut ended up causing all the damage.

haha, welcome to the club! sorry to hear about the bad news. i bought a crank, 12.5:1 piston and gaskets for mine today, and came to be 375, and all of them are new...

heres pics of the damage. you can see the scoring in the piston, the missing piece of the ring, and the "pock marks" in the head and on top of the piston.

I'd almost bet you could buy a used jug somewhere just about as cheap as getting the sleeve fixed and nikasilled. Good luck, and welcome to the two stroke world.

thanks for looking that up. i am really surprised that you cant get everything including the cylinder for $400.

i was gonna send it off to Millennium Racing to get the cylinder fixed, and then get a wiseco piston kit. that would have cost me just under $400 as well. now idk wut i am gonna do.

Id rather try to keep it stock and therefor have cheap thrills. Don't need a big bore on a play bike. But thats just me.

well, i decided to make it a winter project and throw a little extra $$$ into. gonna port it and mill the head for higher compression. im not gonna go high enough to need race gas though. you guys know how high i can go without needing to run race gas? i do run an octane booster already, so my octane is probably a couple points higher than 93

i really dont know how it all works out with 125 two strokes, but 450's are 12.5:1 is the limit for pump fuel.

ive heard you can run a 50/50 mix of race gas and regular gas if you go higher than 12:5:1 i may be wrong though,i think i read that somwhere on this site sombody posted somthng like that i believe...if thats true i wish i would have known before ordering my 450 piston, that way youd be payn what,$5-$7 a gallon instead of $10 for race gas

12.5:1 should run fine on pump gas. The 08/09 yz250f's run good on pump gas at 13.5:1 stock. This winter I'm hoping to get an 08 oem piston for my 05 and jump the compression up a little more.

Check around on ebay as well. I found a cylinder for my rm on there way back when. Also, I don't think you can do a 144 on the older kx's. 134 is pretty much your max you can run safely.
