so i'm planning on building a medium sized xc track on my farm. maybe a 3/4 mile long track. but if you were gonna build one what kind of terrain is mandatory to have ?? or what you want on your own??

thats pretty short. make it as long as you can and hit every kind of different terrian you can with the land you have, rocks, mud, up hills, down hills, off camber, really tight sectons, open field sections, crick crossings and so on.

just take a walk around the property. and observe the natural terrain and use as much of the different landscape. i've built my practice course on 5 acres. but i have added a lot of log piles and tire piles enclosed in a timber frame. rock gardens. its kinda a cross between endurocross and xc and just adding about a 1 & half acre flat dirt track with a couple high speed doubles

You're gonna need a longer track.

watch some videos of gncc and xc racing! You should be able to get some ideas from there. We have built a 3 mile track on 20 acres. We build our tracks really tight and technical so when you go to a gncc or local xc race it seems like the course is really fast and wide open because you practice on a tight and technical course. We usually throw some logs in the woods sections also, there is nothin like flying thru the air with trees wizzing past you!!!:D

Not trying to hijack your thread but heres a few videos of Races Ive held among friends here at my house.......I basically just walk and find new natural areas and add them into the track like mentioned, I also reverse the track at times through out the year......My group has been Racing amonst ourselves since 2002 so we can put together some nice Tracks for GNCC and District Practice, usually between 1/2 mile to 2 mile laps

try and make it wind more and have more track because 3/4 of a mile you can go through pretty darn quick. If you dont have a more technical hill make one. The place I ride at last week they had a huge enduro race. 65miles and the park is not that big, they made 3 laps over the same terrain to get 60 miles, i tried to follow it it wound around everywhere, went through rock sections and cliffs and thats why i couldnt follow it because i'm not insane.
