Brad,
that sure is a handsome bike.....thats not the typical D.C. long travel front end im used to seeing.......... im assuming its a crf-150 motor......do you have any close ups of the rear?

That is all of the photos that Dave sent me. He did say that he used his ball ends instead of the usual 1/2" heim joints, that everyone else uses. Tons of travel with this setup and apearrs to have good clearance also.

The engine is definately a 2 stroke... and I am guessing a honda, by the side cases.

I am a little bummed out that it doesn't have carbon fiber tierods on it... but I know a guy that can fix that for him:D

Hey Toby,
I don't know the particulars on this quad yet, but I will get Dave on here to give us the skinny on it.... or maybe according to my son "the PHATT"
I think I am getting old.

Brad,

I was a little dissapointed it wasnt sporting carbon Fiber tie rods and steering stem.

Sure does look cool. Love the graffix!

But why build to a 2 stroke motor?

camsdad

why build to a two stroke motor?
the powers that be still make us 90 mod guys run the two stroke..we can run 125cc four stroke but what would it be ....nothing i know of that would be competitive...

Hello all:
Just wanted to post a response to my son's quad. I am glad that it has arrived on ATV Riders so you all can see. It has been a great project to work on but even better was the support and professionalism I received from Dave Carter. Dave is truley the "best in the business" hands down. Dave if you are reading this Maddog says thanks again! Trying to get clearance from the wife to start another one. Just a little info on the mod:

DC Frame, A-Arms, and Swingarm.
2008 Suzuki Rm 85 motor.
FMF fatty pipe and shorty silencer.
Motowoz shocks.
Yamaha Raptor 250 XFR nerf bars and front bumper.
Protaper bars, ASV levers, ITP Quadcross tires all around.

Special thanks go out to alot of people that helped:

DC Motorsports (Dave Carter)
609 Custom Motorsports (Paul Gendron)
J&J Racing (The French family)
Motowoz Shocks (Jim Jaworski)
Matt Rowe (Proud father of #38 Sammy Rowe)
Final Touch Restyling ( Ernie Bolden)
XFR products
Generation X (George Wolfe)

Hey All,
Thanks for the nice words. The bike will have carbon tie rods and a carbon steem as soon as we get the steems tested! This bike was a lot of fun to build, when you get to work with the person putting the bike together and they are always excited about working on it, that makes my job so much more fun. Tha a-arms are 250r a-arms with our stud balls just like the cvt bikes. Since the front end of our mod. is based on the 250r with the longer shocks we do not have to run the gull wing style a-arms. I really want to try some carbon fiber upper a-arms on the next bike, i think that would be cool for the uppers and save some weight. I can not weight to see it in person. nice job of putting it together mike!!! oh yea let's do anouther one it was great working with you. DAve

Understood. :)
I thought the ATVA went to a 150cc limit.

Yes they did go to a 150 limit but you have to be 13 years old to run the Supermini class. Maybe a change in the age factor could help. Thoughts on that? 90 mod is 8-15 and Supermini is 13-15. Just my opion but I really don't think a 10 year old should be racing in the same class as a 15 year old but thats just my thoughts!

The main advantadge to the two storke is that it is cheeper to build and maintain. With the 150's when they go down it gets in your pocket book! They make great touqre (spelled it wrong) down low. i think the younger riders should be on 90's just because of the speed. just a few thoughts dave

Dave it is "Torque"... the same as if you are taking a good pee and your toes get light... "good torque":D :D :D
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
At my age, I'd just be happy to pee hard against the ground:eek2:
OK sorry again!

What does this quad weigh?Or what does a typical 90 mod in general weigh?Just curious.

dcarter

the weight is usually around 230lbs to 250 lbs i belive. I have not weighed a complete bike set up for motocross. the frame weighs about 38 lbs. dave

90 mod is 8-12.
90 production, 90 stock,90 CVT, and 125cc auto shift is 8-15
I agree with you on the 8yr olds running w/the 15 yr olds in the mod classes. For the small framed production/cvt/stock classes it's prolly not as much of a big deal.

Mr. Carter, I sure understand the cost factor of the 2 strokes compared to the 4. :)

90 mod is 8-15 in the atva, always has been (atleast since 05)i agree 8y/o shouldnt be on the track with 15 y/o....there are always a few exceptions(my 10 y/o won 90mod at lorettas)as far as weight goes my dinosaur 6y/o carter mod weighs in at 304pounds ready to race,my jb was 299 race ready...they were weighed with intercomp digital scales...you can probably get the weight down a bit,i don't worry about it too much and use parts that i know are durable..holeshots are harder to come by but its sweeter to win from the back anyway...there has been talk about splitting the age for 90mod 8-11 and 12-15,e-mail atva with concerns if you'd like to see it happen...

Not to beat a dead horse here,,but,,
http://www.amadirectlink.com/rulebooks/AmateurRules2008.pdf

Pg 35
Class 10
90cc modified 8-12
90cc 2stroke/125cc 4 stroke

Altho, it is confusing as they list a 50+ class and there has yet to be one.
No mention of pro-am classes.

What do you read?

i hope you don't actually kill that dead horse again by beating on it jack...we are discussing a mx 90 mod the class age is 8 to 15 y/o ...you are comparing the gncc class structure ,90 mod which is actually a 90 prod in the atva/mx..thats why you see a plus 50 class..

did you paint the pipe black or did it come that way from the factory? I was looking to paint ours a flat black and was wondering what options I had.

Thanks,

Kelly

i would love to powder coat our pipe when it comes in as well, but would the powdercoat affect how the pipe works?????
i had a set of twins on my 8oo skidoo chromed and this was not a good idea belive it or not the rpm range of the pipes went screwwy, pipes seem to scavenge better when hot <ie hot starts on the snowcross machines> i know there is somthing to this as i had first hand ex at it with my sled . i did borrow the exact pipes from a friend and all was fixed on mine and his went screwy so i am positve i wrecked the pipes by coating them if anyone has any thoughts on this it may be a good topic

look into jet-hot coatings. comes in a beautiful sterling color. They coat the pipe outside as well as inside which helps with flow. Withstands any heat you can throw at it. pretty reasonable priced and quick turnaround. They have facilitys all over the us.
