im runnin a set of pep limited mass long travels on a houser long travel plus 3 front end on the ex. what a sweet ride. it dont matter what arm/shock combo you use, its only gonna be as good as the shocks, i put the same shocks on my herrmann front end, but that quad had the crf conversion done to it, quite a weght loss, it sat kinda high, but i would go with peps.

I have PEP ZPS 16" shocks on Houser +2's.

I didnt get it yet but im sure its gunna be nice

I just put a set of PEP ZPS shocks on my friends 400ex with houser +2's. We rode it just a bit but it seems awsome, still dialing in the shocks and the alingment angles on the a-arms. This thing sits super lower, looks sweet. We are worried it might sit a bit to low, all the tracks we race at get rutted terrbily by dirt bikes so we might have to adjust them. A+++ set up

a4strokeguy, the quad sits alot lower then stock then? Have you gotten any seat time on it since your last post? Did he get the rear too? I am having my rebuilt to ZPS....Do you have any pictures of it?? Mine are ordered, 6-8 weeks. Cant wait!!

A4StrokeGuy

Sorry i haven't gotten anymore seat time. Very muddy around here so no riding will be occuring anytime soon. By what time i did ride it i coudn't tell much difference between my race shocks and his ZPS, but there not adjusted correctly yet and we haven't jumped them yet, only time will tell. Plus he is running mx holeshots and a twist throttle witch i hate! But when i get my razrs and axle next week we will tell. He is also getting a RPM so we will basically have the same quads with different front shocks, will be interesting comparison. He just got the front, actually there trx400ex's ZPS shocks that he sold. My friends quad sits 2 inches lower then my quad duz with +2 herrmanns and PEP race shocks, i believe it was right around 7-8 inches on the frame at the motor. I'll get sum measurements soon and sum pics to help u out.

YLW400
12-16-2002, 06:12 AM
That would be greatly appreciated...The pics that is...I heard you say, there isn't much difference between your "race" shocks, and his ZPS...What do you mean by race shocks? Long travel?? I too am running Holeshots, but no twist for me...lol Thanks alot!!

12-16-2002, 06:20 AM
I luv responding to post while in school:D Anywho... What i mean by PEP race shocks is, they are triple rates with rezzies basically like works but 10 times better. There not long travel just 16inch shocks. With little seat time on the EX with ZPS i shouldn't have made a decision, when he get it out and hit his 70ft double then it will be judgement day :devil

Jordan

YLW400
12-16-2002, 06:37 AM
Oh ok, his are not triple rates? I just ordered a set....They better damn well be triple rates....lol They were 895...so I assumed they were..

Dave400ex
12-16-2002, 02:23 PM
All PEP shocks are Triple Rates. I think the new ZPS have 4 springs now. Maybe that is just for LT though.

A4StrokeGuy
12-16-2002, 02:37 PM
yes the ZPS are triple rate with the top spring being the ZPS, which techincally it has 4 springs. The race shocks are the same thing just w/o the ZPS spring and it has a smaller rezzy with no comp. adjustment, whoppty dooo. I'll still jump anything he duz with his ZPS AND i saved $400  I apologize i won't get any pics up today, he decided to go christmas shopping. Will definitaly have them up tomorrow, sorry.

Hey jordan, so you guys like the shocks? You should get a pic of the quad if you can...id like to see them on a quad. I used to have PEP "races" a while ago, i think the biggest diffrence between them and the ZPS would be cornering. They have a couple nice features like the bigger shafts and compression adj. too. But to tell you the truth the PEP "Race" shocks i had were awesome, only reason i didnt like them as much was beacuase they were set up for a 250r and were soft. Also here is a pic of his friends shocks if you dont mind me postin this. What aarms is he running? Later

A4StrokeGuy
12-16-2002, 03:25 PM
Yep those be the shocks. He is running houser +2's. All i know is it sits low and looks kick butt! If i wasn't so lazy i would haul my quad over there put them side by side so everyone can tell the difference, also there is about 2" different at the front bumper also. I'm considering buying all new PEP ZPS this summer front and rear, just have to see how the $$ looks and how these ZPS's look. He has a kick butt track in his back yard, 5 doubles, step, tables bla bla, just do muddy to get out there, would tear the crap out of it. Trust me i'll let people know how they work when we get sum seat time, specially when we get our kicker ramp done :macho We'll just have to see what these are made of! By the way my PEP's are set up for a 250R also, about 1" shorter then a 400ex also, BUT they were set for a 185lbs with +3's, i'm running +2's and only weigh 150, that could be y there a bit ruff at slow speeds, but then again who goes slow?

Those Shocks are very nice. I am interested in seeing the pictures of his front end. You don't see to many Houser/PEP setups. Does he have anything done to his rear shock?

YLW400
12-16-2002, 07:35 PM
Yea Jordan....no prob man, whenever you get to it. No pressure at all.....umm, can't wait to check it out though...lol no pressure though.........just when you get a chance.....you know whenever..... just playing dude. I know Warriorman, that is why I was trying to see if anyone was running it, it's kinda different. I am getting my rear shock reworked to ZPS. I think it will be a really good setup. I can't wait!

Dave400ex
12-16-2002, 07:39 PM
I went back and forth between Elka and PEP for about a year. I finally went with Elka, and they are working great for me. I think if I was going to race MX, I would get PEP or TCS though. Axis is to expensive. 400MXer has the ZPS fronts and rebuilt ZPS rear and loves it. It is a nice setup.

YLW400
12-16-2002, 07:44 PM
I was the same way...back and forth, back and forth...My buddy "sharpshooter" has been making fun of me the whole time. He is going with Elka, triple rates, and the read rebuild. You are right, Axis are too expensive for me. But I am going to ride mainly MX....very little trail riding probably, with +2's. SO, I hope I made the right decision.

Dave400ex
12-16-2002, 07:45 PM
You made a good one at least. I just went with Elka because I could not wait 3 months for my Shocks. Hopefully you will get yours faster now that it is Winter.

YLW400
12-16-2002, 07:58 PM
There is no doubt in my mind that Elkas are good. It's just, I am building a house right now, so I have NO time to ride. By the time my shocks are in, my house will be done and it will time to go riding again. So I figured there was no better time then now to order them. They said 6-8 weeks, but probably sooner. I just like the fact that quiet a few pro guys run them, and If they aren't hurting them, there is no way I am going to hurt them. They have a good reputation also.

YLW400
12-17-2002, 07:06 PM
One more thing if you would. Would you measure his front width, from outside to outside. You said they are ZPS right? We are looking for the ZPS spring and can't see it. Not doubting you, just can't see it in the pic. Thats a cool ***** setup though. Thanks alot dude!

12-17-2002, 07:10 PM
those are his Pep Race shocks not his buds ZPS

YLW400
12-17-2002, 07:19 PM
Oh ok.....Thanks Taco

Dave400ex
12-17-2002, 07:25 PM
Actually I think that is his Buds. His bud has Houser's and he has Herrmann's. Those are Houser a-arms.

12-17-2002, 09:03 PM
you can see the zps spring, its just crushed, the zps spring is only there to keep everything tight when the suspension tops out

d-14 rider 27
12-17-2002, 09:06 PM
P.S. what the he!! happened to your plasitc?? looks like you didnt wanna take the bolts out, just ripped it off, cuz it looks like there is some left on the mounts lol

d-14 rider 27
12-17-2002, 09:10 PM
A4strokeguy, what michigan tracks do you race? what number are you, you mighta seen me im number 27, had a 440 but built a crf now

A4StrokeGuy
12-18-2002, 05:34 AM
1. Those are ZPS shocks, the ZPS spring is just compressed when on the quad.
2. He broke his old plastic off before we got to this project racing, so we put new plastic on it, all the front mounts were broke off:rolleyes:
3. We raced the super 8 series at red bud, log road and dutch, i only raced one time and to be honest i can' t remeber what my # is:huh
4. and yes i'll measure from outside of tire to tire sumtime.

YLW400
12-18-2002, 06:06 AM
Ok, I gotcha about the spring...Thats what I kinda figured about itbeing compressed. Thats a tight looking setup. Thanks alot for answering these questions for me. YLW

Dave400ex
12-18-2002, 02:22 PM
Yep that is a sweet setup. I like the chrome plating on the shocks. Must of had a bad wreck to do that to the plastic, or an odd one. lol

YLW400
12-18-2002, 02:28 PM
PEP makes their own shock covers, dont they? I have black outerwares now, but would like a set of PEP, if they make em'.

trx400ex
12-18-2002, 02:46 PM
They look better on the quad. Have you guys played with the ride hieght much? I know alot of guys that move the clip all the way down.

trx400ex
12-18-2002, 02:47 PM
YEah PEP makes black and red and maybe blue shockwears

A4StrokeGuy
12-18-2002, 02:50 PM
yes PEP duz make there own shock covers, they have zipper's i believe very nice also, but there mucho $$$. Actually the reason he has wacked up plastic is when he jumps the finish line table at red bud he never quite makes it and only reason he hangs on is he put his knees into the plastic and prays. Its saved his butt quite often.

Jordan

Dave400ex
12-18-2002, 02:58 PM
Actually I think when you order new PEP's they give you Shock covers. They are like $60 new though.

A4StrokeGuy
12-18-2002, 05:42 PM
We have yet to play with ride height yet, i believe if u move the top ring down u allow not to sit lower, or am i backwards? Haven't rode it much, another inch of rain today, plus we're putting his RPM axle on today, that thing is bad arse strong. Mine should be here before christmas:D Width now i'm guessing.. my quad is right around 47-48 inches i believe don't qoute me though, im to lazy to walk to the garage through the rain to see, ssoooo i'm guessing its close to that maybe a bit more cuz its sitting lower? Will measure ASAP though

Jordan

trx400ex
12-18-2002, 06:11 PM
Raining here too....tell him to get a rear shock and he wont have to worry about that tabletop anymore..

YLW400
12-18-2002, 07:17 PM
60 bones huh? Thats steep for some shock condoms  I sure hope they come with the shocks. If not, I will be running the ols Outerwares!!. Thats funny about your buddy Jordan....Thats sounds like me on every jump I hit....lol

12-18-2002, 07:56 PM
yea PEPs come with their shockwears

d-14 rider 27
12-18-2002, 08:26 PM
my pep's didnt come with them

YLW400
12-19-2002, 06:13 AM
So I guess you can't post a pic D-14....What aetup are you running, suspension wise?

d-14 rider 27
12-19-2002, 11:29 AM
http://www.exriders.com/rides/400ex_21.shtml then the 8th pic down with number 27 on it. thats my old one when it was a 440, the plastic is crappy lookin now and its a 465. but i built a crf i run pep/herrman on that

YLW400
12-19-2002, 12:00 PM
That description by your quad says +2 long travel Houser. Is there such a thing? Nice looking quad by the way

Dave400ex
12-19-2002, 02:30 PM
Wow your 400 was awesome. The PEP's look cool with the Chrome plating. I know when I emailed Baldwin a long time ago he said you got Shock covers for free. Have any pictures of the CRF?

d-14 rider 27
12-19-2002, 07:32 PM
heres my crf in action at dutch sport park in MI the guy behind me smokin that looks like hes gettin roosted is my old man

Dave400ex
12-19-2002, 07:36 PM
So you have a full Herrmann chassis?

d-14 rider 27
12-19-2002, 07:40 PM
oh it says their plus 2's, and thats what i ordered, but i guess there isnt such a thing their plus 3"s i guess houser heard what i meant, not what i said

d-14 rider 27
12-19-2002, 07:42 PM
no herrmann chassis, i would, but he only makes 250r geometry, and im used to 400ex and its easier for me to ride 400ex style with my bad hip and all, im gonna run my stock ex chassis thru the spring then get an arens when he releases them, i am gonna keep all my herrmann stuff tho

A4StrokeGuy
12-20-2002, 05:55 AM
So i'm guessing i'll probably end up racing against you sum this year D-14, and i'm thinking thats a plus for u:eek: Where in MI do u live? I'm ready for sum racing, i think long run starts in early march if theres no snow!

Dave400ex
12-20-2002, 02:28 PM
I really like that Carbon Fiber hood on your CRF. It looks like a very nice quad. Do you race Red Bud?

d-14 rider 27
12-23-2002, 12:18 PM
4strokeguy, you prolly already ran with me. im not gonna run near as many local races as i did last year, theres just too many to do them all. im gonna try to do all the nationals. warriorman, i raced almost all of the local events in michigancept the national. it was muddy so i went to portland instead :D

d-14 rider 27
12-23-2002, 12:23 PM
a4strokeguy, i live in holland. real close to dutch :D. log road should have the first event there the first weekend of march. i'll definatly be down there. look for me, ill prolly have number 944 tho. does anyone know if i get a atva card instead of ama if the numbers will be the same??????

A4StrokeGuy
12-24-2002, 09:49 AM
Sorry for not repsonding lately, family thing. yeah there are alot of local races, my goal is to make it to 2/3 of them, i think if i do that can race decent i could take maybe points championship in something:confused: I'm almost ready for the season, just a few more things, gotta few sponsors lined up so its lookin good!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Jordan

YLW400
12-24-2002, 10:22 AM
I was told that the only difference in the AMA and ATVA card is, in the ATVA you get quad magazines monthly opposed to dirt bike magazines.
