View Full Version : Big bore or no?

I have a dvx 400 and it started smoking blue smoke this past week so me and my buddies thought i cracked a ring or a head casket turned out to be even worse I had groves/markings on my piston and head and i don't no what to do if i should just spend $300-400 and get it bored or save for a ice cube kit can someone tell me what they think thanks alot.

I would recommend the Athena big bore kit. I am not sure exactly what I paid, but I know it was less than $500 which includes new cylinder, piston, rings and gaskets. Also, the cylinder has bigger cooling passages. I have this kit on my race quad (03 Z400) and couldn't be happier. BTW, it is a heck of a lot cheaper than the Ice Cube which is way overpriced IMO.

Yes, but are you running stock valves, cam , carb and exhaust? Might as well add another 500-700 for that stuff. Not a bad thing. Just if your going to do it.

no i got hmf exhaust hotcams jetkit airfilter new valves so i already have that and does the kit already come with the cylinder bored and if so that means i could just take it out of the box and put it in right

The Athena comes ready to bolt on gaskets and all. I installed mine easy and like it alot. I paid around $550. I also added the FCR carb and really woke it up.
