dr pully variator ?

just purchased a dr pully variator. noticed it comes with 3 washers wich it says can be added if needed. what would be my reasoning for adding these washers.

I have one of these also, and although I have not experimented yet, I was told that you can use these to adjust the spacing between the front and rear sections of the variator to ensure that your belt rests on the bushing with no slack between the two parts of the variator. I hope to do some experimenting on mine this weekend. I am sure that there are people that can explain this much better that I.
