i just bought a fully stock 05. wanting to mod it out. i dont want to do anything engine wise past intake, full exhaust, and a cam. i been reading up on the 02 crf cam. it looks just like the power im looking for. anyone tryed one of these? is it just a stock cam out of a crf? where can i get one and how does it compare to the hrc cam? thanks!

I run one in my 05.

Yup its the stock cam from an 02 CRF450R dirtbike.
And I think now the 03 is the same part number.
You can get one used or from service honda.

The 05 HRC is a top end cam, with a pretty lame mid range IMO.
The 02 CRF is a mid range cam.

Totally different, I've ran both. Unless you like revving the piss out it where ever you go, the HRC came isn't for you.
Perfect for drag racing tho =)

i run the crf in mine. with no lid,,hmf slip on,11.5 piston, it runs very strong and linear. smooth and powerful everywhere. very good combo correct jetting is important with these mods also

Those of you who run a crf came on your 450r, do you have to buy a crf carb for your quad, or are you able to use the one that comes on the quad? Im thinking about getting a cam for my 09.

The carb makes no difference for cam.
Can run whatever.

price range? what about an aftermarket 02 CRF cam? how would it be? I asume its the R cam not the X, the X's cam would be mild

Does this work in 06 + also

Don't know anything about the CRF250 but the one everyone uses is the CRF450r cam.

So this will not work in the 08 model, Why Not?

There is something different with the decompressor on the 08.

The newer crf cams should work in the 08 cause they also switched to teh chain side for the decomp but I am not sure what year they switched the crf in or what advantages the crf cam would be.
