They are stronger and lighter. The good thing about them being lighter is the return rate. The valve spring can pull them up faster to keep them from hitting the piston. THis is for high compression applications though.

can you still run oem ones with high compression piston

Yeah you can still run oem. Depending on how high you go you and what cam you use you may want to get a hd spring kit. The other thing about the aftermarket stainless and titanium valves is that they can handle the added heat of high compression better than oem valves.

No you will be fine with stock as long as they are in good shape. I would say go with the stage 2 with 11:1. While you have the head off get the valves checked though to make sure they are still seating properly.

not to go off topic, but does anybody know how much a typical machine shop charges to recut valve seats? im not very familiar with this particular type of work.

Yeah thats what I have in mine. When I had the oem they always had to be reground when I got my head serviced. When I took it to be serviced with the black diamond valves they didnt have to be touched.

so all in all, what am i looking at assuming recutting the seats is about the same? i for sure have at least one leaky valve, so would i just get the seats cut and the vavles reground? im guessing new seals and springs would be a good idea too.. anything else? also, im basically losing compression with a leaking valve, correct?
