View Full Version : 2008 WORCS Round 7-Milford, Ca.-Honeylake MX Park

Round 7 of the WORCS series took place in Milford,Ca. at Honeylake MX Park.
Honeylake is approx. 55 miles from Reno, Nevada, and offers large elevation changes and a great deal of the track is on an uphill battle right off the gate!
Off-road sections include large rocky creek bottoms and Sagebrush threwout the coarse.

Entries were over the 500 mark- much higher than it was back in 2003 when the series ,which only consisted of just over 60 riders !
The series has come along ways since then and it looks like its only going to get better in 2009.
I think Jason would agree, we have come a long ways!

Fridays practice once again consisted of the MX Portions and as always, everyone delivered some fun photos for the day.:D

Points have been tight for most every class this season.
Many riders can expect to be knuckle biting all the way to the last race of the season in Oct.

Can-Am /Motoworks Pro rider Brandon Smith puts the hamma down ..:macho

We will miss Brandon next year. Smith will be heading back East to race for the 2009 MX season.

Saturdays 1st Pro race of the wk end kicks off with Pro Production class.

Polaris rider #2 Doug Eichner gets out front and leads threw laps 1 threw 4.

Eichner slips back in lap 5 to the #2 position, moving up 2 positions, Yamaha's #94 Dustin Nelson takes over the lead and holds a solid #1 finish in Pro Production.

Pro Privateer #549 has caught some attn. this year .Baron -a dirt biker racer gives ATV racing a try for the 1st time on and has managed to battle for one of the top finishes in the WORCS 2008 racing season.
Watch for an upcoming Interview with Baron on the homepage this week.

Baron edges out the competition and moves up from 8th position in lap 1 to filling the #3 in Pro Production.

#9 Mike Cafro slips back slightly in lap 4 ,but held 4th position to the checker.

#258 Jorie Williams moves up from 11th position in lap 1 to a 5th place finish.

In the Prod. A class, #417 Josh Row held the fastest lap time in lap 4, and also took over the lead all the way to the checker.

#249 Mike Kelley moves up from a rough start and moves up from 17th position in lap 1, to a 4th place finish.

#223 David Haagsma moved up from 12th position in lap 1 to 4th at mid race.
Haagsma slips back one position in lap 5 to a respectable 5th place finish in Prod. A.

Open Pro class Can Am /Motoworks #70 Brandon Smith starts out the race in 4th position in lap 1,but takes over the lead to the finish.

In the Open A class there were 26 entries!
#182 Ron Heath gets out front and lead the pack to the #1.
Heath also held thefastest lap time in lap 2.

#150 Gilbert Flores settles in nicely after making the switch to Can Am this year ...
Flores wraps up the #2 moving up from 7th position in lap 1 to 2nd in lap 5.

In the Womens A class, #88 Angela Butler takes home the win and also will wrap up the points for the Championship for the 2008 Womens A Championship. The Womens class had some very fast and furious competition this year.

In the Pro Main on Sunday,19 Pros are off!!
As mentioned prior, several of the riders points are very close, the Pro class is no different.Many riders that raced Honeylake will now know whos in for the Championships at the final round in Oct. at Taft, Ca.

Pros take the hill and there off!! The pictures dont do justice to the HP robbing climbs all the quads had to endure.
By mid race, the hill got very rough as you will see when the footage is posted.

#549 Beau Baron battles with Nelson in points for the points for the #2 in the 2008 champioinship.
Baron would move up 2 positions from 6th place in lap 1 to a 4th place finish.

#131 Keith Carinalli held the fastest lap time in lap 2 and led rest of the race in lap 4.

The Youth classes had challenges of there own...
Several of the youth CVT riders found themselves sliding back DOWN the uphill section and bottling up. Riders got out of order in a big hurry and had to try and play catch up in other sections of the track.
Honeylake would challenged all the riders on the HP robbing course,not to mention,rocky terrain and ground clearance as another obstacle in certain sections.

#177 Cole Fite wraps up the Shifter Sport class.

In the 71-90 mod class,#1329 Kyle Mcbride held the fastest lap time and takes the win.

Team Hetrick Shifter rider #10y Kelsey Lugan has had some tough luck this season .
All geared up to race abit more competitvely after clavical surgery over the summer, she was anxious to get back in the saddle again.
Unfortunately, Lugan would have to sit the sidelines for the wk end and cheer on the team as she experienced some mechanincal issues in the Friday practice.
This will put Lugan out of the points for the 2008 season, but she has high hopes for her debut in 2009 season on her new race quad.

#22p Zachary Michel moves from 3rd position in lap 1 to taking over the lead and takes the win in the final lap.
Michel also has the fastest lap time in the final lap.

In the Prod. C class, day rider #1321 Dennis Rossi starts out the race in 3rd position and moves up to the #1 in the final lap.

Unfortunately this round I have experiences some major computer issuesall week, so I have had a really tough time getting photos to post of everyones racing, so I apologize for shorting the Coverage this round.:(
Rounds 6 and 7 Pro Main vidoe and the UTV vidoe should be posting here shortly.
It was great to see everyone again, Im looking forward to seeing everyone at the final round of the 2008 WORCS season at Taft,California Oct-24-26.The awards Banquet this year willl have a separate one for the Youth as well as the adult classes!

Id like to give Josh Frederick a big CONGRATS to his 2008 championhip, hes worked very hard to get there and Im very happy for him. :)

Also, or those who dont know it yet, WORCS Pro Rider "TPQ" Shelman is headed to Ohio to hit his 1st GNCC this upcoming week end.:blah:
