has anybody heard of using 80 weight gear oil instead of regular oil in your quad...my new basket from hinson says to use 80 weight but im kinda questioning that

Dont use that. It is too thick and will tear up your engine from lack of lubrication. Use regular motorcycle oil and you will be fine. That may be more directed towards a 450 where the transmission and engine oil are separate.

this is used only in severe wear/ extreme temp 2 stroke applications

Im pretty sure that you mean 4 stroke, 2 strokes dont make any heat compared to a 4 stroke race bike in the motor or anywhere else.

no dude....I mean 2 strokes.....I don't know what you didn't understand about the part writen above that said not for use in 4 strokes where engine and trans oil share the same oil. By high heat....I mean like desert riding conditions....ambient air temps...got it?
