View Full Version : The one jetting question that has never been asked

I don't think anyone has ever asked this one...

OK, you know inside your carb, the main jet screws into the bottom of the needle jet, right...

Then the needle jet there threads into the carb itself.
It has a lot of threads on the outside and a locknut to hold it in place.

As pictured here...

Now, here comes the question....

What effect would come about from varying the depth that needle jet is screwed into the carb itself????

It is my understanding that this part is supposed to be screwed all the way into the carb until it stops, and then the locknut set...

But what if it wasn't?
What would that do?

All I can come up with so far is that it would make you richer in a given needle clip position... richer than it would be if screwed in fully.

Would that not be true?

What else would it effect?

Moving that would be effectively the same as moving the needle position.

it would be the same as shanging the clip on the needle but more prone to falling out

Its been a while since i had mine apart but i believe that is what holds the needle seat in place, so lowering it would allow the seat to become loose and drop down. So i dont think it would be a good idea.

your right....... it would allow the 'lil orific(needle jet) to drop down and potentially cause eratic richening of the. there is no gain in your thinking:huh

This is how I found the jetting done when I went into my carb myself.

I just wanted to make sure this was one of my problems.
