whats a good oil to run

just curious what is a good oil to run in a 450. i've heard bel ray is good and i have also run amsoil before and it didn't seem to bad. the prices that honda wants anymore i figure i might as well try something different.

i run honda gn4 or the honda gn synthetic type in my motor side and bel ray gearsaver 80w in my tranny side.

never had a problem with either but amsoil, belray, honda, and a few others will all get the job done.

I used to run the same royal purple I put in my car but the amsoil stuff is only 11.40 a quart, so it's about the same price wise. I was turned to it by a guy that runs it in his sand dragster banshee so you know it is good stuff. But for break-in, remember dino oil is a must.

MAXIMA maxum 4 extra 15w50 100% synthetic. Best oil I have found anywhere compair the numbers. Dirt Bike mags best oil they ever used (tested on Honda CRF 450r). I use bel ray 80w tranny fluid for the clutch side.

I use to throw cranks like crazy when i used belray thumper semi synthetic.

Now that i use shell rotella 5w30 synthetic diesel oil no more thrown cranks.

I dont know if its a coincidence or not but thats the only change over the last year and a half.

On the clutch side i use maxima oil.


On another note our 300ex use to over heat with belray 10w40 exl. We switched to shell rotella 15w40(non synthetic) and no more over heating. Modded motors need the better oil!

amsoil also motor side. in the 450r trans side though i am looking into which gear lube from amsoil would be good. right now theres 80w bel-ray in it. shifts so much better with gear lube in it then the recommended engine oil.

i run amsoil in the engine side, but run rotella in the transmission.

rotella in the engine and honda 80w/85 in the tranny. same as in my 250r tranny. even though rekluse says to use rotella in the tranny.......it tends to stall more and shift tighter with rotella.i prefer the honda red stuff.:D

I am running Honda 80/85 Tranny OIl in the tranny and RotellaT 15W40 in the engine, with OEM paper filters. The non syn RotellaT.

Have run every weight and brand of motorcycle specific, happy with RotellaT: 11 bucks for a gallon at Wal-Mart.

I've had 3 different race bikes w/ fully built motors (piston, cam, valves, milled head, porting, etc) and have never ran anything but the Honda GN4 oil. The cheap stuff...

Run 20w-50 GN4 in both sides of the motor....never had an engine failure. But I also change it all the time...heh, probably sooner than I could but its cheap insurance to me.
