can i use long pilot jets?

I have got 40 and 42 pilot jets to try in my 400ex but they are longer than the stock one. is that ok? can i use them?

Thanks for the reply, but No, it does not answer my question. I have got a 40 (which i am going to use, stock motor and all) and a 42 just like the one pictured and i am wonersing if it is OK that the head of the jet sticks down a few milimeters farther.....i am guessing it is fine but wondering why it is longer
