ok ,so i was getting the bikes all ready for the season to start. i drained the oil in my wifes bike (07 400ex) i installed a new filter then procedded to start it up and let it run for 1or 2 minutes before realising i didn't put oil in it. i just let it idle thats it. i put oil in and it started no problem no noise or nothing. how screwd do you think i am?

if it was only for a few seconds you are most likely fine..theres enough oil left in it after draining to create a coating on the metal surfaces for a litttle bit..

your fine. The 400ex has a oil tank outside, so i doubt you fully drained the motor and tank in one shot. If tehre were something wrong, you would konw it. Put oil in it and go riding

Ya i'd just run it. Keep an eye on your oil level for a while, if it starts using oil then you know you've got a problem. Other wise ride the hell out of it, its a honda therefore very hard to kill. ;)

just get a compression tester and check the cylinder compression.if top end isn't making noise than you SHOULD be good.good luck

Well, if you DID screw up something, it probably wasn't just one or two small pieces, it would have had an effect on everything that was moving (crank, counterbalance, camshaft, ect ect).
So, you can either tear it down and replace everything, or you can run it, and if it breaks, tear it down and replace everything.
My bet says your okay.

you are probably good. like someone said already: the oil left on the parts created a coating which would probably remain for a couple of minutes. just dont tell the wife!!!!

When you drain the oil there is still about a half quart of oil left in the engine. I know this because i always tilt the quad to get the rest out. If you ran it for a few minutes at an idle i would bet that you are fine.
400ex will go for about 2 minutes of riding without any oil before your screwed. idling it probally just got real hot

My friend rode his 400ex every day for 2 weeks without oil and it was fine, then sometime in the 3rd week he lost his valve guides, camshaft, and crank bearings...
