will the spindels, hubs, and caliper fit on my 87 250r...they come off of a 2002 400ex

They most certainly will. Although, you will have to make sure and use all of the components, like you said, the spindles, hubs, and calipers.

Go with 450R unless you're getting used parts. Twin piston calipers on the 450 lik ethe 250R.

okay so in other words the 400ex only has a single piston where as the 450r has two like the 250r...thanks a lot...are both options bolt ons or is there some fabrication that has to go along with the job..

I think the only weird thing is the Tie Rods have to be inverted on the spindle side when running the 400EX spindles (at least mine did, is this normal?)
88-89 hubs also work with the 400EX spindles and brakes. The 400EX spindles have a slightly different shape than the 88-89 spindles, so I used the 400EX spacers in between the hub bearings.

The 400EX brake rotors also fit the 88-89 hubs, but the bolts were larger on the 400EX.

what do you mean by inverted..if i go with this setup it will be all 400ex or all 450r..i dont want to use the 250r hub's

88 and 89 spindles are not the same. I believe the 89 matches the 400ex, but I'm speculating.

88-89 spindles have a larger inside bearing than the outside, but are not tapered. The 400EX spindles are tapered, but the hubs are interchangeable for 400EX & 250R's, Cannondale hubs can also be used on either spindles (I run C-dale prototype billet hubs).

those style hubs will not work on 450R spindles.

Yes the 450R calipers have 2 pistons like the 250R.

The outer tie rods mount upside down compared to 250R ones on the 400EX/450R. Both setups will work on 250R a-arms. If you are running aftermarket a-arms and there are any issues mounting the spindles, run 450R balljoints (ie if you have Laeger's 250R a-arms, get 450R Laeger's balljoints if they do not mount.

Go with 250R since the tie rod ends are the same lengths on the Hondas. A lot of guys used to buy 400EX tie rod ends for their R's since it's cheaper from Honda.

i have +2 arm so im going to have to go aftermarket i guess...or i may be able to find some used on e bay...do you know the length of the tie rods for +2 arms off of the top of your head?

89 spindles are tapered and 400ex hubs are nearly the same thing. 88 hubs will work with the right tapered spacer between the bearings.

My Lonestar 250R has 450R brakes front and rear. The rear is a simple conversion, with just some shimming on the caliper bracket. The fronts are a different story. There is a good chance you will not be able to get the correct camber setting. This may depend on what arms you are using. I am running Lonestar arms, and my camber isn't even close. My wheels lean OUT at the top and there is no way to bring the top in without binding the ball joints. I still ride it like that, I'm not sure how much it is effecting my handling, but I wish I could get it right. I am using stock 250R tie rods, but they are very close to the end of their adjustment, and I have stock width arms.

You can go with the 400EX spindles and 250R front calipers if you get the caliper adapters from Baldwin Motorsports.
