 Does ne1 have any idea to y i keep burning up ignition coils... and when i do get a new coil it will only last for about 2-3 weeks if i ride everyday!!!! What do i need 2 do?

mind you im no expert on this but oddly enough it sounds as tho it may be that its over amped or the supply voltage is too high.

i'll check the "running" voltage to the coil on a couple of mine this evening and post it to give you something to compare to.

You might try another stator.

Kool another stator... where is that located? and i wuz told that its not suppling enuf, and to get a high output pickup and ignition coil

The stator is located on the left side of the engine under the flywheel.

you have a service manual? if so try en check the specs on each component including the pick up.

I used to burn out coils frequently, until I replaced the CDI unit. Haven't killed a coil since.

When my stator went bad, the ignition would just sputter.

Yeah, I'd suggest replacing the CDI before replacing the stator.

You would need some pretty specialized equipment to test the incoming signal to your coil. It could be done, but you would either need to know a technician with access to that kind of equipment, or it would be rather expensive to have a lab test it. To be honest, it's probably easier and cheaper to just start replacing components until the problem resolves itself. I'd start with the CDI.

But before you did that, I would also go with 86 Quad R's suggestion, it shouldn't cost you much of anything to test the specs, that would certainly be the first step.

Well, the caveat to that is the note in the manuals that says even if the part tests good, it might still be bad.

It's unlikely. The pickup coil might test okay, but be positioned too far away from the flywheel. But other than that, it's a pretty sure bet that if it tests within spec, it works.

Everything on the stator is just a coil of wire, and there's only a few things that can go wrong with that. Either the insulation can break down and cause a short, or the wire can break and cause an open. Either of these problems will show up in a resistance test.

I used to build things like this for a living, I was even on my way to designing my own high-output stator (but I never finished that particular project).

Wait, I'm still thinking ignition coil and CDI.

All of my burnt coils and CDI tested good.

Is the cdi the lil rubbery lookin box between the to radiators, with two plugs in it?

yes it is that box. "Between the radiators?" How many does your have? it should only have 1. trx250r right?

He might have an ATC, that is where the CDI is located on them, between the radiators.

Let's not do anything you'll regret. What did you try, and what was the result?
